What's the best method for an acrylic wash?

Post by itek4bux »

Any suggestions on the best way to do an acrylic wash?

I haven't modeled in years and my recent experiments had made ugly results.

I don't think acrylic washes are every really successful - at least not compared to other methods. Some people have got passable results from thinning with alcohol, or using detergent, but I've never really got a better wash than using oils + varsol over a clear acrylic.

What I have used is W&N water colors. I do it over a kit that has been gloss coated (be it future or what ever) for I find that a gloss coat works the best.

The thing is... you control on how thin to make your wash.

I have seen someone in my club make a wash, just short of the thickness of mud, put it on and wipe it off with a damp cloth (windex). Did it on the grill of a car and a plane.

Looked great.

There are about a dozen threads on this already.
