Acrylics under Lacquer. I know it can be done, but how?

Post by PetarB »

As the subject goes. I've experimented with this. The real problem is that for delicate coats of acrylic, say your doing a gradient of colour, the lacquer gloss topcoat seems to dissolve it. I can do flat coats of acrylic and put gloss lacquer over the top, but anything else, and finer airbrush work, and it simply dissolves.

Obviously I need to 'protect' that layer of acrylic before the lacquer goes over the top.

The reason I am doing this is that I love the gloss from lacquer, I can't seem to duplicate it with anything else. But I also love acrylics, and I dont' have a huge collection of lacquer colour paints.

Anyways, anyone else have any experience with this?

I am having a hard time picturing what you are trying to do. Are you running into trouble spraying gloss lacquer (color) onto gloss lacquer acrylic (color) but not when you spray gloss lacquer (color) onto flat acrylic (color)?
