Re: Complex styrene sheet shapes.
Yep, you set the angle and scrape along the edge. I think you can buy machinist protractors or carpenter protractors at hardware stores and maybe the hardware section of department stores. The Gundam Scratch Build Manual author made his own edge scrapers. One of them looks like a regular protractor ...

Filament Printinting
My local libraries have 3D printers, but they only use PLA filament and the heads are 0.4mm. The prints I've seen had noticeable layers. Is it possible to get prints good enough for scale modeling with this setup? I'm trying to talk them in to getting at least one 0.2mm head. How much longer does it...

Re: Complex styrene sheet shapes.
No I mean a protractor. Wikipedia calls it a half-circle bevel protractor. I called them carpenter's protractors. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/42/Ocelov%C3%BD_d%C3%ADlensk%C3%BD_%C3%BAhlom%C4%9Br.jpg https://archive.org/details/Gundam_Scratch_Build_Manual/page/25/mode/2up The Gun...

Chas B returns
You can make a tool to bevel edges of styrene sheet. In Gundam Scratchbuild Manual, the author epoxied a blade to the arm of a protractor. Just set the desired angle and scrape the edge.

Thanks southwestforests.
In addition to the skin and eye warnings, pay attention to the metal corrosion warning. Years ago I cleaned my bathroom sink with Superclean. The faucet has been slowly dissolving ever since.

Re: ATTN! the forum IS broken - NEEDS FIX
Today the SSM forum is working okay. The pages load quickly.
Everything I tries on allscaletrek.com loads slowly then displays a blank white screen.
Has anyone tried contacting John through the store or on Facebook?

Zubie Yeah. Not only are SF spacecraft photographed against the blackness of space, they've frequently gone through multiple photographic passes, optical printing, and color timing. Someone on therpf built an airlock from from one of the Alien films. It's been a while so my memory fails me, but the ...

Re: What is "scale color", i.e. painting to reflect not full sized object
In general the scale color effect is lightening a modelss colors and sometimes reducing the contrast between the colors to make the model look the way it does in tis natural environment. Not everyone believes that the scale color effect is real. David Parker explains why he thinks it's wrong here: h...

Bring John Rosengrant to Wonderfest 2025
John Rosengrant Here's his introduction from Modelphilosopher. "Like many of us, John Rosengrant started modelling as a young child, in his case; historical and classic monster models. After studying at art college, he moved to Los Angeles to break into the movie business, and after a period of...

Re: dumb painting question
Hardware store lacquer thinner is different from acrylic lacquer thinner. For example, you can thin Mr. Surfacer with hardware store lacquer thinner. However seams and things you think you sanded smooth might reappear. When you use Mr. Thinner it covers perfectly without that problem. It's easy to f...

You could go into a nail salon and ask the workers what thinner they use. Maybe you could buy a bottle from them.

Re: removing electrolplate from parts
I'm with Saturn. If you want to remove everything down to the bare plastic. SuperClean is the way to go. Bleach will remove the plating and probably leave the undercoat, if there is any, on the part.
