I've actually designed something already for this.

555 timer circuit for blink rate feeds into
4017 Decade counter - jumping pin 5 to 15 (3 outputs, reset)
6 LED's (3 pairs) mounted in the engines
Ooodles of Fiber Optic feeding from the LEDs to a micro-drilled disk placed behind the red-tinted clear resin/styrene Bussard domes.

Time consuming, nit-picking, but if it has the effect I want... MORE than worth it.

You could also go the route of feeding 6-pairs of LEDs (1 set in each dome) running off the 4017 (jump pin 7 to 15) to give a simple 6 LED rotating pattern, or pair them up in each dome (3 feeds from the 4017 like abover) to give a paired rotating pattern.

Those last are the easiest/least time consuming

Hello, Warcraft.

Try wandering down the forum to the "4017 Decade Counter ?" thread. We sorta cover this subject there.

Is this for an NX, or a TOS - type warp nacelle? The difference is significant. I'v programmed single-chip computers for both. The one for the TOS - type is what I made for the 1/1000 Polar Lights model. That one is cool in that it fades on and off.

Whatever will achieve a rotating effect, and whatever is easier to do.

Can I PM you about your 1/1000 effects?

No problem. I fit mine entirely inside the nacelle (but it was tight).
