stripping eurithane(sp?)

Ok, really crazy question. My dad used a eurithane based paint(jet glow) to paint a ferarri years ago. Now, hes toying with the idea of getting back to work on it.

Heres the thing. Some of the paint stuck, but some also just kinda fell off. He works on airplanes for a living, so he knows how to prep surfaces for painting.

He was just wondering if anyone knew of anything that might take off the paint without ruining the kit.

Being an aircraft mechanic, he knows what wont work, the most harsh stuff hes got is Methel Ethel Keytone(nasty stuff!) and it wont even dent the paint.

Any other ideas?

What kind of kit is it? Is it a styrene, resin, or metal body?

styrene. I belive it was a testors kit. i want to say like 1/24th scale. its a biggie

Oh Crap! The MEK will eat the styrene. It's what's in plastic cement.

I would try giving it a liberal dousing of oven cleaner, sealing it in a plastiv bag, and scrubbing it with a toothbrush.

That fails, soak it in Castrol Super Clean.

Between the two of those, you should be able to strip the paint. Or at least get it started.

Urethane may also respond to some Linseed oil, or good old mineral spirits.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that will touch cured urethanes is a material called RIM Mold cleaner. A very nasty solvent. Not sure what it would do to a plastic tho.
Try a google search for a company called Michaels Engineering.
They supply plural guns to the urethane casting companies.
They carry RIM Mold Cleaner ( at least I believe they carry it , if not they can point you in the right direction )
They may be able to advise you as to the effect on your substrate material.

Is sanding the paint an option for you?

sanding is always an option, just a bit time consuming.
