Glueing metal/photoetch brass to styrene question

Post by MillenniumFalsehood »

How would one go about attaching metal parts to styrene? I am afraid to use model cement(it might melt a hole in the surface and make a mess) and I don't know if CA would hold. Any ideas?

CA glue for PE metal fittings should be fine. Just make sure the metal parts have been cleaned and aren't covered in any dirt or oil. Some people paint the parts first, others glue first. You'll have to work out which works best for you.

I'm wondering if I need any tools for working with PE brass... so far I have (gently) used tweezers. Some metal, some plastic. Is there anything that I should buy to aid in my bending the parts?

You should have a quality set of side flush cutters. These will leave little of the fret on the PE piece. Also some good files to remove the the rest of the fret and finish the piece off. Be very careful cutting smaller pieces as they love to fly into that modeling black hole that surronds everyones work area. For bending, again high quality needle nose pliers are good with the blunt nose. There is a PE bending tool I have seen that helps as well. I will try and find a link for you. For gluing of small PE parts try using regular clear acrylic paint.
Edit- Here are some links to check out.
