Question about LED Viewing angles

I've been using white 1,100mcd LEDs for most projects. They have viewing angle of 100 degrees. I've found some that are 5,000mcd, but there viewing angle is only 16 degrees. I'm not sure how to interpet the diffrence in angles and how it will effect the light distribution. Can anyone help me out with this?

Drag out the protractor and have a look at the difference. If you don't have one, pick one up at the local market. 100 degrees is well over 1/4 of a circle arc. 16 deg is fairly narrow, it's like comparing a flashlight with a floodlight.

Where do you get leds that have a 100° of viewing angle? most of the time, i see specs that have 16°-30° viewing angle.
