Question about priming before casting?

Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

Question about priming before casting?

Post by DARTHTODD »

Stupid question but if I'm going to cast fron a scratchbuilt, can I still prime paint the scratchbuilt before I cast off it? Or is this a no no?

Priming is the best way to find flaws in the Master.
If you are happy the way the model primes, a fine wet sanding may be all you need before you set it up to make a mold.

Thx for the tip. Do I need to wet sand it after priming so that I can make a mold from it? I just want to know if the primer is going to give me any trouble by adhering to the mold. Any suggestions.

Gunze-Sangyo's Mr. Surfacer 1000 in the spray-can will give you a very smooth surface and you won't need to sand it shiny.

Thx, I'll try the Mr. Surfacer 1000. Thx to everyone on this site, you're really making my first scratchbuilt a lot easier than I thought it would be!

There was a class at wonderfest from Blappy on modling for masters here's the link to the file (it's under Modeling Events: Wonderfest 2005"

I'm not sure if this topic is covered in it. Been a while since I read through it all.
