How to Mix an Old Copper Color?

Post by Tchail »

In Gary Kerr’s article on the color of the TOS Enterprise:

https://culttvman.com/main/a-modelers-g ... gary-kerr/

He describes the pilot defelector dish color as “The larger Pilot version dish was a dull, weathered copper color, similar to an old penny...”

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to dull down/age Testors’ Copper Enamel?

Thanks in advance!

My first thought would be to adjust the brightness of the copper with a little brown.

I got a good weathered copper by using Testers spray copper and then giving it a glaze coat of water-based wood stain in a brown color:

I used Tamiya smoke over copper on my 1/1000 TOS E. Looks pretty good.

Did you dilute the paint at all?
