Busy day at the station-raser13

Post by raser13 »

Okee dokee, we finally have a proper thread for us to stretch out in. So here we go. I haven't gotten as much "parts" shopping done as I would have liked. Still unpacking. But

I don't care. I finally have a house to call home. No more renting. Yay!

The plan: is at least a 2 part project. One space station. And at least one capital ship. Plus a slew of support craft, open bays, and construction. We have a year. So we'll see.

What do I have so far? Really bad pics. Mostly because my area is in a Shadow and my light has not been located as of yet. So lots of JJ esque lens flaring and reflections. But here's what I have.

First up. Lids off of Mc Donald's chocolate milk containers. I have just fallen in love with these things. So many possibilities

Next is some ketsup cups from Wendy's. Neat pieces.

Next up is a set of rounded drinking glasses

Squared off versions

Some nice finger bowls.

Some amazing champaign lutes. One of these will more than likely become my secondary hull.

Chip clips. I'm seeing impulse engine deck. Maybe.

https://i.imgur.com/TBUE0Vx.jpg

Toothpick forks. Either side trenches on the secondary hull or possibly nacelles on some of the background craft. Time will tell.

You can't really make them out but they are plastic salad tongs. Thinking b/c deck don't know yet. The parts haven't all had time to speak to me.

An finally some clear plates. Primary hull for the main ship. And probably parts of the station. We'll see. This is just from dollar tree. I need to make it to hobby lobby, and the party supply place yet. So I'm sure the stash will grow and the vision will start to finalize and present itself. Who knows. Right now that is the battle plan. And it's kind of set in a trek world. But is all it takes is that one piece to talk to me right and this whole concept can go bye-bye and a new on take it's place.

Oh and I haven't forgot the barrel clips either. I have them. Just didn't get a pick. And still haven't found a good spot for them in the design. But they will tell me where they belong.

Well that's my update till this weekend when I get a chance to finish organizing and building my area, and get started putting tools to plastic. It'll be nice. I haven't touched a model since the traveling model last year. I still have hopes that Midwest teams ship will be completed. One way or the other.

ok boys and girls, time for another update. alot slower coming than i thought they would be. new house, so the to do list has become huge.  but here we go.

the main ship is starting to form up as the parts start talking to me. it seems like it's going to form up looking kind of similar to the excelsior lines. but i'm really hoping to change that. just have to figure out a way for parts to go together.

as stated before the champain lute is the secondary hull. the plates are going for the primary dish, the chip clips are impulse dries. and a new addition is some razors that i found at wally world for $0.28 that will be nacelles. i have quite a few parts trying to edge one another out for the role of my bridge. so if you see one below that you really think fits the lines i have gong so far. speak up, i can use all the opinions i can on this one.

i was kinda leaning to the mc d's coffee lid for a while. but it would take a lot to cove the wording. you can see the plates as the primary in most of those shots. next is the secondary hull.

and some experimentation on configurations. mostly nacelle direction and placement.

my other new parts are kind of interesting. one comes from an idea we used on the traveling model. hows that coming btw M3? a pair of kids binos. we used them for engines. don't know what ill use them for here. or if i will. time will tell. and a lot of parts for some support craft, and other ships visiting the station.

As I see it, Raser, your problem will be having to choose which bits to put where. :) Nice collection of bits, and I like the directions you seem to be choosing for their assembly. :)

Look at this stuff
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the guy
The guy who has ev'rything?
Look at this trove
Treasures untold
How many wonders can one modeling section hold?
Lookin' around here you'd think
(Sure) he's got everything
I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
(You want thingamabobs?
I got twenty)
But who cares?
No big deal
I want more!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

thank you for the compliment. it means a lot to me.

yeah and that's just the ones that i thought fit the build. i have boxes of stuff. i've started separating them into shoe box sized plastic container sections that i think they fit into. bridges, nacelles, impulse engines/crystals, rockets. canopy's, pylons/ wings, structural pieces, ect......

i'm sure every one has a similar pile. i just had four huge boxes and had to down size/organize them. took me for ever to find a part before. now if i know i want a bridge, i pull that box look for the one that fits and ta da!!! only problem is now i tend to give myself to many options. :( :D

and for this challenge i'm trying to limit myself to found things. mostly because it make my wife happy to see me using some of that weird stuff i pick up everywhere. and i think it's in the spirit of this challenge. plus i just can't resist making things harder.

and i hope that maybe some of the newer modelers and those just coming back will see that scratch building can be easy, cheap, and not so scary. that way they might be inspired to give it a go themselves. that's why i love these challenges so much. they really showed me what could be done with everything. and a lot of ways to do what i want to make. now that i've built up some skills, it's my turn tho try and inspire. kinda warms the heart.

that's why i try to say where i got the pieces that i have and what they are so that people can start to see that the shapes are everywhere. they just have to look.
