Cabal Hover tank

The challenge: build any kind of hover tank without using a tank kit's hull or turret - because nothing saus 'fun' like 70 tons of floating mayhem.

Ok 11 new pictures added to the album. The intent was to make an external model only. However i couldnt resist giving it a cockpit. THe lid doesnt fit perfectly but it looks close enough when not setting in place. The picture of my fingers holding it over the forward hump is about where i want it to sit. Ill have it resting on some kind of supersized drawer sliders. The Tank is a one man vehicle so for all intents the hatch is meant to be fully removed in a workshop after a mission. It does have the ability to be opened from inside by the crew member when on extended missions. The core of the vehicle is meant to be very resilliant and act as an escape pod similar to an F-1 racer ot a speed boat. It also doubles as a convenient coffin

The base turret shape is also getting mocked up out of aves. The gun will be a auto fed side mount weapon with a short range rocket pod balancing it out. The rockets are mainly for indirect fire and infantry supression.

THe cockpit was fun to throw together. I added little fighter style details like the side stick and throttle with arm rests. The seat took me a bit to figure out then i remembered my F-1 idea and it fell in place.'

Other details added were more surface details and greeblies. Photoetch lift lugs on the major components, Bull bar in the front and some equipment tie down loops on the hull edge. I only have the loops on one side but will add more to the other.

Enjoy

Thanks guys. Alot more work to go on the turret. The main hull is almost there though. I may break up some of the empty spaces with more panels. Still undecided on the paint scheme. The game has a nice green and sand one with a big german flag across the nose.

Oh and in case you guys didnt notice. The model is balanced. Its setting on the cap of that tamiya extra thin bottle on a very small point and hardly teeters. It falls to the rear a bit when the turret is put on but it should balance back out when the spaced armor and slat armor is put over the engines.

Banging the rest of this one out tonight and tomorrow. I want to have to have it ready for the contest this weekend. May go UK based with the camo and markings. It helps that i have some Scimitar, scorpion and Warrior markings in 1/35. Should look interesting in a green and black scheme. Maybe ill go with the BATUS sand and green scheme.

Turret and gunS almost finished. The vehicle is beginning to look more complete now. Ill be making some spaced armor for the engines tonight when i get back from work.

All new shots are at the top of the page with the tank in dark grey paint.

Needs stowage and grab handles. And lift rings. And no-slip sections. And....

Looking good man.

I agree with Robb. Tanks gotta be covered in crap. Otherwise they're chunky fighters.

Seriously, though -- wish mine looked that good. Might have to start again...

With a 1 person crew there wont be much crap all over it. Thats what the stowage bin on the rear of the turret is for. I will be adding more handles once the spaced armor is on. Guys gotta have a way of getting on and off the thing. The final paint scheme is still up i n the air. I want to see how it looks once the armor is on it.

Oh what do you guys think of the main gun. Stole ot off some leftovers from an armored core kit. Was killing myself trying to think of an unrecognizable mantlet for it. Then it hit me. T-55! Just a canvas cover over the hole. Some out came the foil from a Dove chocolate easter rabbit and BANG canvas cover!

Oh Jeremy. Theres no rush man. Take your time and just make something that looks cool. I just step back and ask myself if what im adding fits the overall feel and compliments the design. If it looks too far off it goes.

Looks great. Actually, had to look again, it looks that natural.

Bringing some life back into this one. Mine is still on the bench but in a bit of stasis lock. Cant figure out an interesting spaced armor for the engines. I had contemplated slat armor for a bit but that poses its own problems. I may still go with it though.
