Ork Hova Tank - Finished! With Pics!!!

The challenge: build any kind of hover tank without using a tank kit's hull or turret - because nothing saus 'fun' like 70 tons of floating mayhem.

Anywhoo, this has been a constructive week, tank-wise. The blessed Aves has made all the difference!! [-o< The lower hull is scribed and somewhat detailed, though it needs more; I've been scanning the interweb for inspiration and have a few ideas. I finally got around to adding some 'pointy-bitz' but I've come upon a startling realization: I build a little too neat for normal Orkiness! According to the interweb, it should be a bitmore 'ramshackle'! Ugh, how the h--- am I gonna do that?!

I also stripped off the Aves Paste from the air skirt. PAH! Aves Paste! I shall not spaek of it's ilk again! Foul concoction! Most foul, most iky! I have replaced it with the blessed Aves Sculpt ( :please: ) and shall be sanding it to a glassy smoothness soon.

Stay tuned, pics to come soon....
Butters, you ask how are you going to build more "ramshackle" and then you say you're going to sand the Aves to "glassy smoothness" - I'm sensing confusion in the force. :)

#-o

Here's an idea - try cutting - not squares of thin plastic, but 'squarish' trapezoids for armor plates. Then rivet them together with overlaps as necessary - and don't worry too much about straight seam-lines. :) Rivets can make anything "fit" - yes, O thou 'Dairy-Product' Ork?

Well, around the turret I needed them to be a bit orderly since I wanted it to be able to rotate, and plates sticking out would snag a bit. As for glass-smoothness, that's on the air skirt and I do need it to simulate rubber skirting. Oh, it'll have patches and such, but I prefer to do alot of sloppines in the painting.

I do get what your saying, but I'd prefer smooth Aves, then, glue the patches, uneven welds, rivets and such onto the body. I don't want the ramshacleness to be poor construction methods.

Awright... well, it's time for more pictures. I finally found some batteries with juice in them! Well, I'm done with most of the building; I still have figures and stowage, not to mention painting and such to go.

And while it's not exactly a boarding ramp in the back, it is disembarking ramp with enough room for two Warbikes, or four Boyz! I already have my target, er... grot for the tower, and am working on a couple of 'tanker' Orks. Stay tuned.....

Very nice, Butters! :)

I particularly like the bomb on the port-side ... I'[d guess deployment is to release the holding straps, turn sharply to starboard, and try to un-a$$ the area before detonation ... :) Very Orcish! :)

It's actually a 'dumb' rokit! It's got a nozzle on the backside and the rokit rotates to about 45 degrees. I considered making it a grot-rokit, but was past the point of easily doing it when I thought about it.

I'm hoping to get my figures painted and the misc. stowage and extra items finished before I post more pictures. However at the rate I'm going, it'll be next weekend before I'm truly done. Plus, I'd really like to finish the weathering and a bit more detail painting.

Geez, no wonder I hardly ever finish a model  .

Some on the surface, some on the towers? Only in Orkdom does three bow-mounted shootas, 4 anti-personell rokkits, a tri-barrelled, 90mm Gatling cannon, and a bunka-busta heavy rokkit, constitute "under-gunned".

Well, I'll take it under advisement. I still have some things like personal items, ammo, packs and melee items to add to the interior of the turret, and maybe some glyphs, so I'll tinker with adding something. Maybe.

I'm nearly finished with my figures. I regret that I only have two, but the drivers hatch does open so I may do a head to mount there for added visual intrest.

I also think I'm gonna add two war-bikes to the rear, they'll have to be modified a bit to fit (and will be little modeling projects in thier own right),but it needs to have something back there.

I was very apprehensive about painting red onto my basecoat, gunmetal. I can build a model of the Eiffel Tower, but will usually frak up the paint, so I was nervous anyway. But the red, Tuscan Oxide Red looks good on the gunmetal. Not too bright, and not clown-ish, which was a big worry of mine.

If your an Ork player, I guess my guys are Evil Suns. We'll see about orange flames, however. [-(

Well, I'm 99.5% done. I never did get the interior stowage finished. But I will. However, I figure I'd go ahead and declare it done. These first three shots were in the driveway, in natural light, sans figures.

Here's some more with Targit, the Grot, and the tank commander. I used a bit of Apoxie Sculpt to fashion a tankers helmet (although it seems to have come out more like a 1930's football helmet!). Targit is a Games Workshop gretchin figure, heavily reworked. The rest of the tank is .040 styrene, urethane foam, cash register recipt rolls, plumbing pipe, a Star Wars toy and various bits from the bin. Paint is Tamiya Gunmetal and red highlights in Badger Tuscan Oxide Red.

And yes, it probably needs, and will get, more guns.

Looks great, Butters! :)

I dunno about more shootas ... when I looked at it just now the design screamed to me for deployable chainsaws on either side ... sort of Orken-day versions of chariot-wheel swords ...

But I think it looks great the way it is. :)

You mentioned adding some war bikes on the cargo deck - will they be on the ramp, sort of like the APC in Aliens was loaded onto the ramp of the Dropship?

The warbikes actually do/will fit on the flat 'deck'. I just have to modify the twin tailpipes on the bikes for them to fit. Or, four Ork boyz with bases. As to deployable chainsaws, I might do that on an upcoming build! :D

Orcboyz, but other than that....the 'patchwork' on the skirts is very
good. You really need to send some pics of this to GW.

Well, as an observer, he's totally unreliable and unwilling! But, screaming does draw enemy fire, and that's good enough for the tank commander to figure where the enemys position is. He's actually Targit the fourth, but who's counting!
