Cleaning red paint out of brushes

Post by Callandor »

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like red paint is much harder to clean out of my brushes than other colors. Why is that? Is there a trick to make it easier? What is the best way to clean brushes in general?

I use The Masters brush cleaner. Work it into the brush and rinse out. Repeat if need be. It'll even restore brushes with dried on paint (I know, I do it a lot).

Red and blue pigments are notoriously difficult to remove from brushes, one of the old-time recommendations if you're going to paint a lot of reds or blues is to use a separate brush for each color family.

To clear red, dip in blue before hitting with thinner. To clear blue, dip in red before hitting with thinner. This is "the old trick" you seek. :)

I hope this helps.

Kenny, did you just tell them to take the red pill?

Amen to that----I just learned the hard way with Insignia Blue Acryl. Ended up doing a complete teardown, including the air plunger and spring assembly. :(

It was like a fine, transluscent film of indgo blue ink was everywhere!
