" Vickers FV4210 Chimera"--1st Pics--19/01/10

The challenge: build any kind of hover tank without using a tank kit's hull or turret - because nothing saus 'fun' like 70 tons of floating mayhem.

" Vickers FV4210 Chimera"--1st Pics--19/01/10

Pictures will follow, and It will be interesting to hear you spot the parts in use.

My first build goes well, and offically is called

FV 4210 CHIMERA by Vickers unsurprisingly :)

So far the massive rear engine grill is built, and the body shape has been roughed out but the parts need tidying and sanding.

Sounds like a grand greebly hunt will be on at the Milton Keynes Show next month :D
I've sketched some ideas out and thought of a couple of name ideas but wont start my build thread untill i cut styrene and start shaping the hull.

Looking forward to seeing the pics mate.

I've been looking at the Etranger 2300 site for some ideas...

Vickers F835 Templer IFV

Vickers FV 799A4 'Cavalier' Hovertank

Schneider AC-12 Hovertank

Not a hovertank but a cool design

EBR-97 AFV

Another wheeled design that has potential for hoverisation

FV844 Redkat IFV

And finally, a neat little support vehicle for diorama purposes

Hawker Hover Rover 500 Light Hover Utility Vehicle - electronic warfare variant

and an armed version

and another view
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage
to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill today because they got on my nerves.

And help me to remember when I'm having a bad day and it seems that people are trying to wind me up, it takes 42 muscles to frown, 28 to smile
and only 4 to extend my arm and smack someone in the mouth!

Hi TonyG2

I've seen these links before, some of the simpler designs are good and have potential - i like the Schneider HT. But the converted Hover cars don't make sense as they look to much like a car, right down to the wheel arches. If you were designing a Hovering vehicle from the start you'd be unlikley to start be using a conventional design, it would be ground breaking: its function would dictate it's final shape.
I think that was the original point HWR MkII was making when he suggested this challenge, getting away from changing an established vehicle and creating something totally new.

Of which I will try and load some pics today!

Hi all,

Purposley no photos Sunday, as well as needing a lot more sanding, It still is in its original colours from the doner kits, and as I don't want you guessing too easily :D what the parts are, I want to get some primer on it first.

Progress though has been great. Nice engine grill all done, deep 'wings' to ride the lift added, front glacis on, just need to cut out drivers station.

Hi all,

You will see this is still very much a work in progress, lots of sanding and filling to be done but the body is pretty much done regarding its overal shape. The underneath still requres some more grills and thrusters as do the wing tips and rear of the engine block. blending of joints and adding weld lines next.
No turret yet, it will be low profile with gun off set from the centre and drum magazine, possibly clear to see ammo.
Crew 3- driver plus two in turret.
Critisism encouraged! ( as is donor part guessing :D )

side view
engine rear
top veiw without turret
nose still being developed

HWR MkII Nope, no car hoods in the build, though the nose certainly looks like one now.

DennisH I hope its not too obvious. :D ironically after i sawed of the cylon wing tips and then added the newer wings it looked like a cylon ship again. the cylon engines were a bit obvious too but i'm notorious for starting kit bashes and then burning out on a build problem so kept the mods quite simple to keep speed up.

I will get more done tomorow. regards, DEC.
