Wiring cold cathodes

Post by compucrap »

Hey,

So say I had 2 liquid cold cathode light tubes, and I wanted to wire them together so they could both run off one DC 12v? I'd like to get some simulated warp drive action going on with them.

Be careful with the insulation on these wires. Was handling the inverter and touched my finger tip across the output terminals. It was shocking and smelt of burnt finger.

I tested an inverter with two short tubes that I got from kitsusa, and it ran the two 4 inch tubes in series. I believe the driver was meant for the 12 inch tube, though it is the only one they sell. Whether this can be done with a given set of tubes and inverter has to do with the startup voltage and the running current requirements of the tubes.

Yeah, as long as they're 4" or 6" for that matter, you can run them off one inverter...you have to run them in an series circuit though.

The cold cathodes I have here at home came with an inverter which can be used for either one or two cold cathodes (two plugs).
