Good sizes for fiber optics?

Post by jgoldader »

Hello--I've got a Star Destroyer I need to light, it's the Kenner electronic SD which was based on the AMT model. I'll be trying fiber optics for the first time. But, I don't have any intuition on what size(s) to use. 1 mm? 0.5 mm? And should I try to bundle the strands myself or look for pre-bundled ones?

Thanks!

I think 1mm would be far to big. I would go with .5mm or even .25mm fiber. While fiber is pretty strong, the drill bits become more fragile the smaller you go. With that said I drilled almost 300 windows in my Salzo Galactica with one .5mm drill bit.

As far as single strand or bundle, I've only used single strand so I can't give pros or cons on bundles.
