What is gun tape?

Most tapes will provide electrical insulation. Heck, they used to use a sort of masking tape in older electric guitars (which restorers go to great pains to preserve).

As long as it's sticky and non-metallic I wouldn't worry.

Gun tape seems to be tough duct tape: http://www.sealsactiongear.com/catalog/store/351.htm

T is just like sucky tape, and it comes in many colors, it dosent work well as sucky tape just a heads up, I used it to repair a dryer line and it gives out over time. It may still be called duct tape, I'm in the army up here and it's just what we call it when it's not silver
