Simulating chalk markings?

How do you simulate chalk markings on something? I'm going to be building a scrap bin for a diorama, and I'd like to have the word "SCRAP" written on the side in chalk. I experimented with different painting techniques, but nothing approaches the look of chalk lines. Has anyone done this before?

What about.... chalk?
So me, trying to be tolerant of everybody's situations, went to a feminist picnic. Things fell apart fairly quickly after nobody made any sandwiches.

You could try a white wax pencil or white artists pencil. You can find these at Hobbylobby or any good arts and craft store. You can also find something similar at fabric stores.

Prismacolor pencils or better yet those blocky pastel sticks.
