unwarping a resin display base

Post by Arthur Krull »

Hi,

I have a display base made of resin. It's got great detail on top is about a quarter inch think and is slight warped.

How do you unwarp something that thick without damaging the detail?

Thanks much for any suggestions.

Well, the standard way to bend resin is to heat it, right? You might try heating the resin with a hair dryer, then set it down quickly onto a flat surface, hold it flat, and let it cool.

Or strap it to something flat and immerse in hot water or warm it with a heat gun.

Yeah heat with hot water or hair dryer and straighten out. You can then "set" with cold water.

However if the original piece warped as the resin was setting up, you may find it returns to the warped state over time so it may be necessary to fix it down to somthing else to keep it flat!
