Heads up: Parking AGAIN

Post by Stu Pidasso » Tue May 23, 2017 4:06 am

Every year there seems to be something huge that same weekend that causes parking woes for us all. Just for S&G, I checked to see what was going on across the street at the Kentucky Expo Center. This year, again, is the off-road show. Be prepared to have 3-4 spaces taken up by trailers, UTV's buggies, etc...

That happened at the HoJo's last year. I was leaving the "Resin Illuminati Suite" to go to my hotel, and some jackass with a trailer was taking 4 spots. Had to circle around for 10-15 minutes and LUCKILY a spot opened up. However, if that happens again, I'll just park at the Hampton Inn across the street. They had PLENTY of parking during overnight hours.

Is it an issue during the day, to visit, or just overnight parking?

Honestly? I've made it a habit to come in, find a parking space and not leave the entire weekend.

I'll be parking on Thursday night and pretty much not leaving until Monday morning. If something is in my way, I'll just park on top of it. I just bought a 2015 Tahoe. :D
Surrounded by unbuilt models. What the heck do I work on next??

HI all,

This will be my first Wonderfest show but I'm bringing in a large number of CoMMiES in my RV. We will be arriving Thursday night. It's a small RV at only 21 feet and I can almost fit it in one slot if I have a grasssy area for the back end to overhang. Does anyone else bring an RV and if you do, where do you usually park it at the hotel?

I don't know offhand, although I remember seeing RVs parked at the far end of the parking lot. Maybe call the hotel?

Doug -

If you arrive by late afternoon on Thursday, you'll probably find a spot at the extreme south edge of the lot by what I think are the A/C heat exchanges for the building. When you drive past the lobby and turn around the corner of the building, you'll see what I'm talking about. That's about the only area of the Crown Plaza parking where large vehicles can fit anyway.

The hotel room is at the Rodeway Inn down the street. Hoping to use the rental car to assist you and Tim ferrying models.

Every year I end up using the car for errands over the weekend, and had have never had a problem finding a place to park in the hotel lot during the show. It gets pretty full at times and I can see where it could totally fill up, just haven't had it happen to me for the 20 + years I've been going. I'd imagine Saturday morning would be the worst time to try and find a spot as all the more local people are getting to the show then and would not recommend driving anywhere then, but you'd miss the start of the show and who wants that?

I'll be getting in either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, and likely to be leaving the car in the parking lot the entire weekend.

It took me a year after getting back from Japan to feel comfortable on the RIGHT side of the road again - and sometimes I still screw it up.
