Anyone up for a trip to Dayton on Friday?

Post by M3 » Mon Feb 06, 2017 5:52 pm

Ash and I are coming to Wonderfest this year via Dayton, OH. We're planning on visiting some old friends, then touring the National Museum of the US Air Force on Friday. They opened the new R&D/ Presidential wing a few days after Wonderfest 2016:

Is anyone else interested in going?

Possibly. What's the drive time to Dayton from Louisville?

For me, that's returning home. I was born in Dayton. :8)

About 3 hours according to Google maps.

I got to visit the AF Museum when I was at the Columbus IPMS Nats a few years back. Even got to see the Presidential and R&D aircraft on WPAFB. They were crammed in a hangar and we got to walk right up to them!

I might be up for it. See the new hangers. Bummer that we can't get April to back into a X15 again.

In the old experimental wing you were walking amongst the various aircraft. Imagine walking up to a XB-70 landing gear. Well, she was stepping back to take a picture of something else and *wham* into the wing. Vern also demonstrated why he has scars on the top of his head from F-16s. Unloaded he can walk under the wing no problem. Loaded they're just @ the right height to think you can walk under them.

Aaron, Aidan, and I will be going. We have space for one more comfortably. A second - not so much comfort.

And that's pretty much where Cydonia and I will be as well. We also need to do an LHS run to a local shop we visited last year. Neither of us has a hobby store near our homes any more and this is our chance to stock up on needed items.

Best Hobby Shop in Louisville is Scale Reproductions on 3073 Breckenridge Ln, in the Mcmahan Plaza behind the Kroger gas pumps.

Last visit to the museum was about 20 years ago.....but they were offering walk/crawl through on the B-36!! Do they do that any longer??? It was tough when I was younger....doubt I can do it now if they did. Still would like to visit again.

That's the one we're heading to at some point today. We went there last year and it was like walking into a slice of heaven.
