I've always just used rubbing alcohol, works great every time, and very cheap. Thin to consistancy of cream.

I made a mold of a Happy Meal toy to make a ship with an alginate mold and some polyester "fiberglass resin" from Home Despot. It turned out pretty good with no stickyness:

If you can find it, the black super glue with rubber(tire glue) works great in place of epoxy for some larger parts. Pinning always helps as mentioned.

Paint usually stuck fairly well to mine, and we used them for wargaming. The paint would only flake off if they were bent or contorted. I believe I was using enamels at the time. You might try shooting them with a coat of spray Kilz from Home Despot and follow up with the craft acrylics from Michael...

Pretty nice looking but may be pricey. I seem to recall a FSM issue with an article on making your own. I could be wrong.

Don't forget the grocery store. Herbs like oregano and parsley make great leaf litter, etc.

I'm having a similar problem with a scratchbuild. I built up the surface with homemade putty and am finding bubbles as I scribe. I'm doing just what Mark said, filling the grooves with epoxy putty to rescribe into. Haven't done the rescribing yet(too tired) so can't tell ya more.

I bought mine years ago and love it. I most recently used it to bend the struts on my feddie carrier:

It takes a little getting used to, timing-wise, but does a nice job.

Patience is a must with this concoction. My jar was mostly gooey about a day after starting it, but it took a month or so for it to reach the "creamy peanut butter" consistancy that is needed. I also went out yesterday and bought a respirator to wear when working with it.

I started a jar of the "goo" a few months back and I'm using it right now on a scratchbuild. Works just like Macfrank is saying. Super cheap to make too. Many thanks to Woody for passing the "formula" along.

You'll probably have to paint the branch/putty and then drybrush all to make it look realistic. It make take a few tries to get it right, just experiment.

I made a few 4'x 8' game boards for Micro Armor years ago and did the same thing with twigs and railroad foliage. I just drilled holes in the base and white glued them in. Touch up glue with acrylic paint. Wish I had some pics.
