I saw yours as I was researching runway lights. It's very nice. There are several options out there. Since the one I buy will be going in a 3 foot model, size isn't a real issue, however price was a factor. This was $9 and I can get 50 feet of .25mm fiber optic for $6. Since I'm pretty adept with a ...

Bakatronics-anyone use them?

I need a runway circuit for my Salzo Galactica landing bay. This do-it-yourself kit is only $9 and supports 10 LEDs. I don't need that many, but that's fine. Anyone have any experience with product or company?

Any reasonably priced board that offers some special effects is always welcome. How many LEDs can it support and is the flash rate adjustable?

I like zip ties to hold bundles together. Easier than tape, more secure hold and no messy residue if I need to undo the bundle. I use Plastruct tubing fitted over LEDs to hold fibers. I usually use 5 minute epoxy or hot glue to secure the fibers to these tubes.

Go to a Radio Shack and pick up a wire wrap tool. Inside the handle you will find a V shaped tool for stripping insanely small gauge wire.

I understand completely. This is definitely not an easy kit to light. Couple nearly 40 LEDs with adding photoetch, scratchbuilt details and opening doors and building Lamborghini style hinges, and yeah, you will be pulling a lot of hair out. The rest will be grey.

The Spinner yes, is the futuristic police car from the movie Blade Runner. It has been a long requested kit by modelers for years. We have only had some rare resin models to choose from, some good, some not so good. We also had the 1/18 scale diecast "Future Car" from Back to the Future. I...

Let me dig out the ebay seller for the Fusion Core board. I checked a while ago and he had nothing for sale at the time. I'll post his ebay user name and you can email him and see if he can make you one. The steady on lights are not connected to the FC Board. Those lights will bypass the board. I am...

I'm using magnet wire for the most part, especially on all the SMT LEDs for the lightbar. To control the flashing I am using a custom programmed Jupiter 2 Fusion Core board. The eBay seller programmed in several flash patterns at my request. He sold me the bare board, with no LEDs at a discount. All...

No experience with the lighting kit. However, I do have a Fujimi Spinner on my desk. I tried 3mm LEDs and those were too big for the clear domes. I eventually went with SMT LEDs. Oh, and you'll need a lot more than 18 LEDs. I'm up to about 37 right now.

Anytime I filled in a window while spray painting I just poke it with a toothpick when I'm done. If you use an airbrush you should not have any problems.

I would drill the windows, light and build the kit and then paint the exterior hull. You are not going to get to much paint inside by painting after the windows are opened up. After all is said and done, use Micro Krystal Kleer to fill the windows after painting and decaling.

Ah, soldering, such a joyful side of model building. What wattage is your iron? Should be at least 40w. What type of solder? Should be thin rosin core solder. what type of wire are you soldering? Stranded works better than solid. Are you using a seperate flux?

What are you working on?

I am more inclined to think it's a bad/cold solder joint somewhere at or past switch two. The way they all flicker at the same rate when you jiggled the model, I have had this happen with bad joints. If it was the wrong resister you wouldn't get full power and then the dimming/flicker. Plus jigglein...

Irishtrek, you can try dipping it in Future. Sadly though, while Future may help diminish the appearence of the crack it will probably still be visible.

Lights for ST Voyager

A friend of mine put me in touch with a fellow modeler up in Canada. She was building a model of Voyager and wanted to add lights to it. I agreed to build her a light kit. Here is the result of that. Took longer than anticipated, due to real life, me getting sick, and blowing some cheap LEDs I had. ...

Here is a trick you can do with LEDs to keep the leads as short as possible. You need a good soldering iron to do this. Solder your wire to the leads as close to the base of the LED itself. Once cool, you can clip off the excess leads. You need to solder quick as your so close the diodes and they do...
