Two words- resonance chamber. This is a trick used by lightsaber builders. It's basicly putting the speaker inside a tube the same diameter as the speaker. The material of the chamber and length can effect the sound. On my Graflex with UltraSound board I wound up using a cut down 35mm film cannister...

Great to hear! Yeah, once Elmer's sets up it can be pretty tuff! Now, take some Tamiya clear red, blue, and green acrylic paint. Take a tooth pick or super fine paintbrush (#5) and add drops to the ends of each fiber. That will give you some nice multi colored lights. Oh, and post pics, we like pics...

To my knowledge, there is no Protector lighting kit. You could modify an existing premade set up for another kit. Mine is on the back burner while I work on my Ani Star Destroyer. I plan to use 4 white LEDs for the interior, 2 5mm and 2 3mm blue LEDs for the engines, two 3mm red LEDs for the bussard...

Try this, take two blue 5mm LEDs and put one in each end of a plastic tube the length of the clear part so they are facing each other. You can get the right size from your hobby shop made by Evergreen or Plastruct. When lit it should provide a nice even glow behind it, almost like a flourescent tube...

If you check out my thread on my Star Destroyer you will see how I attach fiber optics to LEDs. Here is a link.

The problem with applying heat to fiber optic is, depending on the thickness, they could melt ot curl from the heat. It's best to stick to something that does not require heat. For my Star Destroyer in the WIP section I have used 5 minute epoxy and regular old Elmors white glue. Just because one met...

While I can not contribute a whole lot to this thread, I will add this. I am running 21 white LEDs for my Anigrand Bad Guy Pie Cruiser and I wanted to use a walwart. I picked up at RadioShack an adjustable regulated power supply. You can set it at 3, 4.5, 6, 9,and 12 volts. It puts out 1 amp. Set at...

I cut two lengths [of fishing line] and two lengths of fiber optic... How long were those? I reckon for short stuff they'd be similar, but for longer runs (a foot or so and longer) fishing line would be quite inferior. They were only about 3 inches! Don't remember the brand right now. It was cheap ...

I bought some 50lb. test fishing line at Walmart last night. I cut two lengths and two lengths of fiber optic. These were glued into 1mm holes drilled in a scrap of plastic. Super glue did not harm the fishing line or the FO (from the fiber optic store). The fishing line was a bit more flexable than...

Fishing Line?
Anyone use fishing line as a substitute for fiber optic? While I realize it wont be as opticaly clear as fiber optics I am looking at the cost side. I estimate my Bad Guy Pie Cruiser will use about 833 feet of fiber optic cable. That adds up to an expensive fiber optic bill. I think I will hit Walma...

Just got my kit today! Looks sweet. The nebulizer and the vox just scream to be lit! I will be watching this thread with interest. Where can we get a Borg lightning plate small enough for the vox? Would it be affordable or not in the next question . . . - Leelan I'll see if I can dig some up. My wi...

Easiest solution is to just use black electrical tape! :D Seriously though, 99% time I use a Bic lighter or a small tea/votive candle. For doing FO you just have to have the heat source further away. It will take longer for the HST to activate but you will not melt the FO as easily. I have also used...

A backlit panel yes, would need a light source. The panel allows light to pass thru it and illuminate buttons and screens and such. Depending on how many panels you have a simple setup of LEDs powered by two AA batteries will probably work. For attaching the panels I would sugget regular Elmers whit...

It dries to a semi matt finish I would say. But the trick is to use only enough to do the job. If you have any glue oozing out between parts, your using to much. A thin film is all that's needed. If you need to build up or fill in small gaps do so a little at a time. Just as if you were puttying. Th...

I like this a little better than regular "Elmers White Glue". It dries to more of a "clear" than white glue which can have a milky tint to it.

The easiest way would be to stuff it with a small strand of white LED X-Mas lights. The problem is lighting the engines. The pylons are solid plastic. You will have to scribe a channel to bury the wires in. There is a PE panel available to cover this area though. And then it goes up in complexity fr...

I think I saw this talked about on the RPF. Let me do some looking for you. From what I know, the engines were regular bulbs with red gel over the heatsinks center. This gave the engines a red center with a ring of white showing thru the fins. I attempted this on my Salzo V2. I used white LEDs and r...
