Two words- resonance chamber. This is a trick used by lightsaber builders. It's basicly putting the speaker inside a tube the same diameter as the speaker. The material of the chamber and length can effect the sound. On my Graflex with UltraSound board I wound up using a cut down 35mm film cannister...

Great to hear! Yeah, once Elmer's sets up it can be pretty tuff! Now, take some Tamiya clear red, blue, and green acrylic paint. Take a tooth pick or super fine paintbrush (#5) and add drops to the ends of each fiber. That will give you some nice multi colored lights. Oh, and post pics, we like pics...

Yeah that whole idea has been scrapped. The fishing line did transmit light, but not vey much. The optical clarity of the line is very poor. I finally went with .75mm FO.

To my knowledge, there is no Protector lighting kit. You could modify an existing premade set up for another kit. Mine is on the back burner while I work on my Ani Star Destroyer. I plan to use 4 white LEDs for the interior, 2 5mm and 2 3mm blue LEDs for the engines, two 3mm red LEDs for the bussard...

Seriously though, you can try sanding the LED with fine grit sandpaper or a sanding stick. Also, good ole' wax paper works good to for diffusing LEDs.

I would paint the inside of the grill with Tamiya transparent blue. Use blue LEDs. But experiment first to see if your happy with the effect.

Thanks for the tip, is that a clear tube or a white one? How bright does the effect come out? Should I paint the white in gloss, or matt? Cheers, Rik White plastic. I'm not sure you can get clear plastic tube from Plastruct or Evergreen. If you can I would give it a sanding to "diffuse" t...

Try this, take two blue 5mm LEDs and put one in each end of a plastic tube the length of the clear part so they are facing each other. You can get the right size from your hobby shop made by Evergreen or Plastruct. When lit it should provide a nice even glow behind it, almost like a flourescent tube...

I may start using CA on my Anigrand Star Destroyer. There's a ton of fiber to run and it would be so much quicker with SG and accelerator.

If all my fibers fall inside the model after it's done I'll just blame DLM! :D

Seriously though, I have used CA on some FO in kits before with no issues.

The problem with applying heat to fiber optic is, depending on the thickness, they could melt ot curl from the heat. It's best to stick to something that does not require heat. For my Star Destroyer in the WIP section I have used 5 minute epoxy and regular old Elmors white glue. Just because one met...

This is my method. I take a short length of Plastruct tubing with an inner diameter of 5mm (for a 5mm LED). This is very common at hobby shops. This is slipped over the LED. It should be long enough to extend past the tip of the LED creating a "cup". Just stuff the other end with your FO. ...

I cut two lengths [of fishing line] and two lengths of fiber optic... How long were those? I reckon for short stuff they'd be similar, but for longer runs (a foot or so and longer) fishing line would be quite inferior. They were only about 3 inches! Don't remember the brand right now. It was cheap ...

Considering fishing line is a different material, I'd doubt it'd transfer light anywhere near as well as dedicated FO Another place is The Fiber Optic Store - get 15' of the 64 strand cable for $27 - un-bundle it and you have almost 1000' of .265mm (.1") single strand That would be a great dea...

I bought some 50lb. test fishing line at Walmart last night. I cut two lengths and two lengths of fiber optic. These were glued into 1mm holes drilled in a scrap of plastic. Super glue did not harm the fishing line or the FO (from the fiber optic store). The fishing line was a bit more flexable than...

Fishing Line?

Anyone use fishing line as a substitute for fiber optic? While I realize it wont be as opticaly clear as fiber optics I am looking at the cost side. I estimate my Bad Guy Pie Cruiser will use about 833 feet of fiber optic cable. That adds up to an expensive fiber optic bill. I think I will hit Walma...

Easiest solution is to just use black electrical tape! :D Seriously though, 99% time I use a Bic lighter or a small tea/votive candle. For doing FO you just have to have the heat source further away. It will take longer for the HST to activate but you will not melt the FO as easily. I have also used...

It dries to a semi matt finish I would say. But the trick is to use only enough to do the job. If you have any glue oozing out between parts, your using to much. A thin film is all that's needed. If you need to build up or fill in small gaps do so a little at a time. Just as if you were puttying. Th...

The easiest way would be to stuff it with a small strand of white LED X-Mas lights. The problem is lighting the engines. The pylons are solid plastic. You will have to scribe a channel to bury the wires in. There is a PE panel available to cover this area though. And then it goes up in complexity fr...

I think I saw this talked about on the RPF. Let me do some looking for you. From what I know, the engines were regular bulbs with red gel over the heatsinks center.
