Seems on point to link to my monolith album:

Inspired by an Owen Oulton piece where he did the same basic thing with TNG figures.

Carving a prototype

Working on a project that needs a piece roughly the size of a pack of cigs. What I want to do, since it's a fairly simple shape is cut a prototype from something to use as a stand-in for the real part to coordinate the other pieces of the project, then shave down the prototype to create the actual p...

Curses. I've accumulated a lot of those little trays, being a believer in the four food groups (fast, frozen, canned, and junk).

Guess I'll stick to using them for the little paint bottles of whatever project I'm working on or other utilitarian purposes.

Using frozen dinner packages............

as a cheap source of plastic.

I'm thinking of a project where I might need a lit of thin small sheet pieces. Is the kind of plastic used in Stoffers or Marie Calender frozen dinners basically suitabole to be used in lieu of regular styrene?

(Never tried it before.)

Another "best glue" question

I'm doing a scratchbuild with solar panels and I ran across some mylar wrapping "paper", metallic blue on one side, at the dollar store and I say to myself, "Hey, this would make great solar panel. Now most of the panels are flat so no problem there, but a couple are corrugated. Now, ...

I built one myself using wood and plexiglass with many holes for the top. The frame is windowscreen edges held together by c-clamps which also serve to keep the plastic above the oven rack. When the plastic starts to sag to the point where it's in danger of touching the oven rack, I know to pull it ...

With the warm water bath and frequent switching of nozzles I was able to get enough out of it for my small project. I'm giving up the idea of using it for the bigger one I had in mind. Thanks everybody.

Reviving dead spray paint cans

Have an almost full can of a color that is: A, no longer available and B, perfect for a project I'm working on. But when I hit the nozzle, it clogs in seconds, add a fresh nozzle same thing. Have shaken till my arm feels like its gonna fall off. Any ideas?

Chrome "erosion"-anybody seen this?

As I've mentioned in another thread, I've been cleaning my models. Yesterday I pulled down my "Pilgrim-Observer" and much of the chrome on all the plated pieces was just plain gone. I've never seen this before. Is this just a hazard with plated parts or might this have been a freak occuran...

Warm water? Soap? Geez, guys, is that all you've got?

And don't even get me started on yellowed paint and decals. The white of my best shuttle stack (built in aprox '90) is now the color of a brown egg.

cleaning models

This seems the best place to ask this question. Kind of post-finishing. Does anybody know any tricks for cleaning models that have been on shelf for years, without anything protecting them from dust, smoke, etc. Other than bruch and brush. Any potions that will not damage pain, decals, etc but will ...

For positioning parts, I've discovered a neat little trick. Put it where you want it, then put a short piece of scotch tape on it and the model, peel back the tape bringing the piece with it, hit the part with the least amount of CA you can and then use the part of the tape that still fastened to th...
