9 volts is 9 volts is 9 volts.

If you're running things on 9 volts now, they'll work on 9 volts tomorrow. Whether you're using 3 separate batteries or a wingle wall wart with your circuits running in parallel to each other, you're still running at 9 volts.

You're really overthinking this.

They make 9V wall warts. 9 LEDs should be no problem to all be run off a single unit.

It would be great to see that material in a smaller diameter - say 0.02 to 0.06 inch. It would make a great phaser affect. 3/32" (0.09") seems a bit large, but it's probably necessary for the light carrying capacity.

Tom, I believe that if you get the EL tape with the thin unlit "seam" running down the center then you can add your own connectors, one on each side of the seam. I know I could do that with the ribbon tape available from MicroStru.com, but not sure about other suppliers and I know it doesn...

Hi Chas, I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. Without looking at your tape, my guess is that perhaps they were over-flexed and one or more solder connections in the bad sections has broken. This is a very rare problem that sometimes happens. This is only the second time I've run into it in the past...

I'm no expert, but my guess is that short of getting a degree in video electronics, your best bet is to put a non-changing readout info the static cling film. Compositing video on the fly is extremely difficult and I'm not sure it's possible to find something off-the-shelf that will a) fit in your p...

It sounds like your best best is to butcher a cheap video camera and scavenge the CCD and display. You can probably find a used one EBay. I understand that there are several inexpensive and/or free graphics programs that will let you make the reticle design and print to the clear film. Don't know wh...

How about a cheap mini video player? I bought one with a 1.5" screen at the drug store for $25 - USB and onboard batteries and memory. You should be able to find one on EBay.

I bought some of the static cling transparency film at Staples and made a reticle for my camera's display so I'd have all the video/title/action safe areas readily visible. I'm sure that would work just fine for you.

Here's where I've been buying mine lately - it has a little more info about connecting to it. All colors can be strung together to one power supply (battery, wall wart, what-have-you). You don't have to worry about voltage as each tape has its own resistor set build right in and can work off a common voltage.

As a simple and straight forward system that doesn't include bying anything off the Bay, just put a 9V battery in series with two AAs. 9 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 12 volts. The problem there is the 9V will discharge before the AA's do. You'll basically wind up wasting a lot of the power of those AA's. It's bes...

Even though the relays were fried, becaused you used them, the control circuitry wasn't fried. Kind of expensive fuses, but it could have been worse. There were fuses (actually circuit breakers) in the circuit, but the relays fried faster than the response time of the breakers! As I say, very cool ...
