Re: "Blue Stuff" reusable molding
SSP-HG!!!??? I've wanted to get my hands on that stuff for years! I've seen it used by so many Japanese modellers and it looks really interesting. HLJ use to carry it, but unfortunately they no longer do. Really? Is it that great? Yeah, I can get it easily. I've seen it in modeling stores. I can or...

Re: conductive paint?
I'm not entirely sure how to connect a wire to the paint when necessary. Just glue the wire down and paint onto it?

conductive paint?
Has anyone used a conductive paint for super narrow spaces for lighting? I am wondering if it would be easier to paint a trail of conductive paint through a tight space such as between two wings in order to light something. Here is a model railroading-related essay on this topic: http://www.sumidacr...

Re: "Blue Stuff" reusable molding
That's the same material as OYUMARU that I've been using for a few years. Yeah, that's it! Oyumaru. I'd forgotten what it was called here. I actually found something a while back that is very similar, but has a different name. I used it to make a mold from a cream puff-shaped eraser as well as a do...

Re: Thank goodness you're back...
I even checked in at All Scale Trek (hadn't been there in months) and found nothing new. They didn't even have a post on the new 1:1000 Defiant. You should check out scifimodelaction.com if you haven't already. It's put out by TrekWorks/Boyd. It's not as diverse as this forum, nor does it have quit...

HobbyTalk is blocked at my work, and I've never signed up there. SSM is the one forum I spend the most time on, and others don't have the same level of activity. I'm glad it's back.

Re: "Blue Stuff" reusable molding
I saw something similar a few years ago. I tried a sample kit of it, and it did not work out for resin casting. Only because this stuff melt's when it gets warm, and resin hears as it cures. Good point. Something that can be reformed when it is warmed will lose its shape when something warm is pour...

"Blue Stuff" reusable molding (aka Oyumaru)
My friend (goes by Ultron on here, but doesn't post much) showed me a video about something called Blue Stuff. Here is a product page. You can warm it up in water to mold it around something and it hardens. If you wish to recycle it, just warm it up again and it is reusable. There's also something c...

Re: How much Fiber and other supplies to order
The Gonk and Nebulon B are resin kits, aren't they? I'm not familiar with the others. Unless they have hollow insides, I don't think they'll be able to be lighted. As for fiber, I bought some from Amazon. They were like 10 strands of about 2 feet each or so. I wouldn't go all out for 1500 feet if yo...

Just the opposite for me, now I have to remember to click "mark forums read" before I leave to another forum/website. Well, I'm on the opposite side of the world from most of you guys. By the time I get to read this forum, most of you are asleep and those topics have time expired and they...

Re: Questions? I Got Your Questions Right Here, Buddy.
While people have requests for changes, I'd just like to say one thing I like about this new forum that irritated me about the old one: it used to mark topics as read with some sort of time expiration. Now topics I haven't read yet remain unread until I read them. I'm glad about that.

Re: Adding sound?
While this is not what the OP is looking for, for others who are interested, I recently bought a 5-button sound card that can hold up to 200 seconds of sound total from Big Dawg's Greetings. My friend used one of these to add sound to one of his models... I think it was the Revellogram Colonial Vipe...

What you could also do (according to someone on here who also is on the Macrossworld modeling forum but I cannot remember his name) is lay down a coat of clear acrylic before a final coat of TS-13 after it's cured. I've never done this, but it sounds feasible. IIRC, the can itself says that it is no...

Holt, Tamiya TS-13 Clear out of the rattle can is a lacquer, and is not intended to go over decals as it will eat them up. Use it as a base coat, but I would advise against using it over decals. Sorry to sound like a Japan snob, but Tamiya doesn't make crap like Testors clear coat. I'm not even that...

I've used Delta Ceramcoat paints on figures. For hand-painting, they work great and auto-level very well. Jerry at HDA Modelworx thins these craft store paints with Future and has hand-brushed with fantastic results. He's been slowly working on the AMT cut-away Millenium Falcon and he hand-brushed t...

Or you could use something like this, then you wouldn't have to cut the connectors in half and you could make the connections polarised (ie one conection male to female and the other female to male). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M133X6U?psc=1 I can already get those easily at akizukidenshi.com. Wha...

I think I might use these jumper connectors to light up models. I can cut out a small hole on the bottom of the model (or have it inside the stand), cut one of these in half, secure the female end into the hole on the bottom of the model, and have the male end go up and attach to it. This way, a mod...

EPSON inkjet printer with white ink
Does anybody know about the Epson Ultrachrome printer that can print white ink? I wonder if this will work on decals?
EDIT: Ah, CRAP! This thing goes for over eight thousand bucks!

Apparently I never finished the message I began typing on here. I asked this same question on the Sci Fi Model Action forum and have had good responses there. How to light up a sphere?
Last night I started tinkering with a model I have some spare parts for, drilling out the spare parts for the engines to see how it could light up. It's the R9-A Arrowhead from R-Type Final by PLUM. It's not a cheap kit, so I'm glad I happen to have those spare parts to screw around with. ANYHOW, th...

Connecting power to the model
So the most common way of lighting a model, it seems, is to have the wires coming through the stand and the power located under the base. However, I have the old version of the 1:700 Andromeda from Yamato and it has a rather clever way of powering it. The stand has metal contacts and the hole on the...

I just found this site: www.instructables.com/id/How-to-attach-fiber-optic-filament-to-an-LED/ It says that using a hot glue gun is fine. The stuff melts at a much lower temperature than any fiber optic will, I imagine. What you can do (and I've tested this myself) is using a lighter to burn the tip...

How to attach fiber optics to an LED?
So what is the best way to attach fiber optics to an LED? I've never done this before. I would think that binding the fibers together into a bundle with some heat shrink tubing or something, cutting them flush with each other and encapsulating them into a plastic straw or something and sticking an L...
