N/M - This was related to the refit as I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was actually interference paint used. I've read through Paul Olsen's site and it was definitely pearl, so again, n/m...

Got the kit today. I've been looking over the instructions. It really isn't complicated, but the use of electrical diagram symbols and some vagueries would definitely make it difficult for some. I emailed Trekmodeler and offered my graphic design services in that area. He might not sell enough of th...

I ordered my Trekmodeler kit on Sunday, the DIY kit because I've got soldering experience and to me I'd rather spend the hours assembling the lighting kit because IMO its part of the overall build as long as you have the ability. I'm not building for a client so why cut corners. Hopefully I'll get i...

That may well be it. Thanks, guys. I HAVE been spraying it straight out of the can and not thinking anything of it. You may have hit the nail on the head. And I may have to reprint those aztecs....or just the custom registry decals at least, and give it a new try Try using Testors Decal Bonder. I'm...

Alclad Chrome Prep Help
I'm working on a silver surfer kit. The 1989 Horizon kit. I'll be posting photos of my progress in the On the Bench board soon, but I was wondering what the best prep for Alclad is. Currently I have the kit glued together and the seams of the parts filled with aves and smoothed over using water whil...

I recommend AVOIDING Bel Decal and decalpaper.com as sources for decal paper if you looking to print LASER prints. I'm reasonably sure they're fine for inkjet prints, but when I ran a test print using their laser paper in my laser printer, after ordering 1000 sheets of Tabloid for a pretty penney, t...

first off, please dont buy an airbrush because of looks. second, I use a bottle feed, more commonly known as a siphon feed where a small hose sucks up the paint from the bottle into the internal mix of the airbrush. I wish I had gotten a gravity feed cup. The problem is that if you want to mix some ...

Primers & Airbrushes
So I'm looking to get a new primer, something I can spray from my airbrush that wont eat the brush or the styrene or resin and that I can sand when I need to and such. I've used Testors 3oz Spray Gray Enamel Primer until now, but I've been told there's better out there, so what should I use? It does...

Weathering with powders
Being a studio art major I have a lot of pastels and charcol left over from my drawing classes, so my question is this: is it just as good of a weathering job with charcol ground up and brushed on than pastels ground up and brushed on? I'm wondering because I have several projects that will require ...

i would not recommend mixing them. You should go to a local hobby store, or website and order some enamel white, or some acrylic turquoise. Its not good to mix them together in a cup. It isn't TOO bad to lay one down on top of the dried coat of another, but they wont mix together to make another col...

need advice on studio scale project
To start off, I'm a photo major at a university. I am planning a large studio scale project of a futuristic city. The project is going to be approx. 36-42" tall by 24-30" in diameter, with levels that reduce in diameter as it rises. Windows will be carefully drilled with a tiny drill bit, ...
Bulldog?
I've heard references to using Bulldog before priming for painting, but I was wondering what it is specifically and where can it be purchased, and how is it used? I just know its supposed to help prevent pull ups when painting multiple layers.

AMT/Ertl Large Xwing Lighting
So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on hiding the wires going from the fuselage to the engines which will each house a red superbright low angle LED. The kit wings aren't large enough to put a hole through them and I was hoping someone had an alternative to digging a trench. Thats the only diff...

no art stores here. There's a quasi-art store that I used to buy the frisket from, but they stopped carrying it, and the other art store in the area closed because of moronic business management (huge store, small quanity of merchandise, seriously excessive pricing). I'm going to go home next weeken...

frisket retailers
The store I went to for frisket stopped carrying frisket so I'm looking for an online retailer that has clear frisket for a decent price with inexpensive shipping. Seems like every retailer I've found wants to add $8 for shipping. I'm just wondering if anyone has a good line on it.

that same exact problem happened to me last night, except for the not cleaning after use part. I haven't used my brush in about a week and I went to test some paint for color and the trigger draw was loose with no tension and the needle wouldn't draw back to release paint. I ended up disassembling i...

I shook it until my arm started to ache because I did see some settling and separation but even still its not really anything other than an off white with a hint of grey. I'm planning to shoot a little onto a spare piece of styrene and see how it looks after it dries. but yeah, the color doesn't loo...

I got a couple bottles of Testors Master Modeller's Acryl Duck Egg Blue, but it most definitely does not look blue. Its more of a creamy off white, and every other color i've gotten from the Acryl line is WYSIWYG. I'm just curious if this is normal for the testors Duck Egg Blue.

Thanks for the tips. Budgie: yeah I washed it all before hand. I usually wash the pieces before I start cutting them off the sprues. When I examined the model today I tested the rest of the surfaces with some 3M painters tape and it all held, and the tape has more tack than the vinyl masks so I'm gu...

Airbrushed paint pulling up on masks
I've been working on the PL 1:350 Enterprise Refit/A and I've gotten to the through to the first color coat. I primed with Testors Acryl Gray Primer, Let that cure for a couple days, and sprayed 2 coats of an off-white which was Testors Acryl Light Gray and White with a 1 to 1 ratio of each color. I...
