I am a worshiper at the House of Aves. It's everything that Kylwell has said, and it has the added bonus of being able to be smoothed with ordinary tap water.

I've used it on resin, styrene and vinyl kits, without a single problem.

We may need to rearrange the order for the WF entry. I'm not going to be at WF 2015, as my wife and I are taking our kids to Florida next October. My eldest daughter turns 16 next year in November, and family friends have offered to share their condo in the Orlando area so we don't have to pay for h...

But be assured, we won't re-cast!

Woodland Scenics also makes stuff in a variety of scales. Check out your local hobby shop in their railroad supplies section.

Already going to do that. The sheets are 12 inches long, and the board is a 1x12, which is actually 11.75 inches.

Thanks for the input!

I have a brand-new tube of 5-minute epoxy that I haven't opened yet, so that might be an option. I'll also look into the contact cement, but I'd like to have a little bit of working time before the glue sets so I can move things into final position.

Thanks again!

Bonding Styrene to Wood

I'm working on a project, and I need to bond several sheets of 0.25 mm plain Evergreen styrene to a base that's made of a 1x12 piece of poplar. I'm trying to create a straight, level surface. The wood has a very nice, smooth surface, and it's not warped (I checked carefully when I was buying the pie...

I know a lot of folks pre-thin their paint in a small mixing bottle before pouring it into the cup. It's useful if you're going to be doing a large project that will take several paint applications to complete. That way you already have paint ready to go when it's time to do the next coat.

Ken can't tell if it's tacky or not. It's had one coat of enamel primer and two coats of lacquer put over the masking.

Stuck Liquid Mask Question

I'm posting this question for Cydonia, who's at work at the moment. He's texting me with the information so I can post it. He's working on a styrene project and applied a base Tamiya clear green acrylic coat. He used two layers of latex-based liquid railroad mask that he got while he was in Florida ...

My old Airbrush City compressor crapped out on me, too, but it did it right in the middle of a project! I ended up buying an Iwata SmartJet at WonderFest this year and it rocks. Agreed. Dime-store style masks (with the rubber band holding it to your head) are usually made of vacuform styrene. I have a Boba Fett costume at home that has a plastic helmet that I'm pretty sure is slightly thicker styrene, but the halves are held together with Velcro.

That's kinda the whole point of building something in the 24-hour timeframe. A lot of us, myself included, get bogged down in the details, such as gathering references, scratchbuilding additional details, trying for that "perfect" paint job/decal application. What ends up happening is that...

My kids are gone to summer camp, but I still haven't had time to get anything done around the house.
