Personally, I'd for a wall-wart (wall mounted, plug in transformer) Second best - Batteries other than 9v If the 8 LED's each draw 20ma (standard draw for most LEDs) then the power reserve/lifespan of batteries are as follows (assuming standard alkalines) 9v - 500ma - 3.1 hours AAA - 1000ma - 6.25 h...

Ok - the way to calculate the needed Ohms is R=(Vs-Vl)/a Ohms=(Source Voltage-Load Voltage)/Current Draw Example Source Voltage is 9 volts LED Voltage is 3 volts LED Current rating is 20ma (.02a) 9-3=6 6/.02=300 So to run a single LED rated at 3v off a 9v power source, you'd need a 300ohm resistor W...

Re: batteries connected in parallel

So I get that if I connect batteries in series, they will add up in voltage (two 3 volt batteries will equal 6 volts). But what about in parallel. My understanding is that they will still equal the same voltage (assuming all batteries connected are the same) but that they will have more current or ...

A question: I've thinned my Aves Apoxie Paste with alcohol to get a speadable consistancy, but it takes forever to harden to a point I can sand it. Will heat cure it? Can I put it in the oven for a bit? Hold it over my space heater? And if the oven is acceptable, is there any danger because I thinn...

Yes, running the two LEDs in series with one 150ohm resistor will be fine

And since you're getting this all hooked up/assembled - I'll say it first

The pair of 3mm LEDs with 1k resistors sounds like 1 resistor per LED All this will do is decrease the brightness by a percentage And I'm not surprised that you haven't seen a decrease in intensity in 6 months - LED lifespans are measured in years (100,000 hours of MTBF is 11 years at 24/7 operation...

Using the 150ohm vs the 1ohm will reduce the brightness - not by much if it's a "superbright"

Added benefit - since the LED isn't running at full brightness, it will actually extend the lifespan - no burnout

The ones advertised as "Blinking" contain a micro-circuit in them to cause the blinking effect No need for additional parts - except AS ALWAYS, a resistor - use the same calcs for the blinky's as for standards One note - blinky LEDs have notoriously had a much shorter life than standards -...

Yep Always check the calcs for the Resistor (Vs-Vd)/A For the 3 Whites, the calc is (12-(3.3+3.3+3.3))/.02 or (12-9.9)/.02 = 105 For the Blue-Blue-Red-Red (12-(3.1+3.1+2.3+2.3))/.02 or (12-10.8)/.02 = 60 For your strings of 2 Whites (12-(3.3+3.3))/.02 or (12-6.6)/.02 = 270 To calc the total ma neede...

Re: Anyone use beading wire?

I was thinking of buying some 28-30 gauge beading wire. I like the size, you can find it nylon coated, and it's flexible and easy to wrap. But with my luck, I'm worried that it will cause the model to burst into flames. So anyone with any experience with this stuff? If I remember correctly, beading...
