Re: Removing paint/ink from plastic signs

It helps if you have the MSDS for the degreaser/cleaner not the tire cleaner https://www.superclean.com/wp-content/u ... S-v2.0.pdf

Re: cheap plastics or balaswood

Check for your local plastics supplier, you should be able to get 4x8 foot sheets. Or order them online. Or hit the hardware store and see what they carry. You can get some pretty fine plywood.

Re: Safe acrylic paints for Bandai models?

I use lacquers and alcohol based acrylics all the time on Bandai kits. I don't work with solvent based enamels. Alclad II, Tamiya, Mr. Hobby (Gunze), Lifecolor, Vallejo, etc. Yes, soaking some Bandai plastics (ABS IIRC) in turpentine will leech the polymers out making it brittle otherwise you're fin...

Re: Painting a Checkerboard pattern

There is a rather tedious and mask intensive way to mask checkerboard. It's done 2 stages using precision cut tape both as a spacer and mask. I'll see if I can dig up the tutorial.

Re: Source for super fine metal mesh?

Do you want wire mesh or perforated sheet? Wire mesh can go to fine fabric level where as perfed sheet can go down to single micron (or less).

Superglue age hardens and becomes brittle. This is one of the reason I recommend the rubber impregnated Gorilla CA. Less brittle and less likely to pop apart. I've moved to Gorilla for a few reasons but have had no issues and use it on everything. Me too. Love the stuff and you can get it most plac...

Re: Rotating Police Strobe Lights Effect

Which is why I'd just order them. I'm a wimp when it comes to soldering tiny LEDs. Well, based on my experience building LED clusters for police lights I wouldn't think less of anyone who chose to buy them rather than build them... But did the site you linked sell the LED clusters? I thought it jus...

Re: Black/blue paint

I just found this on the internet: https://www.usagundamstore.com/products/alc-710-1oz-bottle-candy-cobalt-blue-enamel So I'm thinking, if I spray this over a black basecoat, I should end up with a really cool effect?? What's the difference between transparent paint, such as Tamiya Clear Blue and c...

Re: What putty?

Okay, will do. Found it, still in shrink wrap. And a little bottle of love potion number nine, well, some kind of special tool cleaner, actually. That's their "safety solvent". Use it to smooth the putty out. You can also use water. As a note, despite the "non-toxic" label, it's...

Re: Black/blue paint

Preshade with clear blue overcoat. This is trick and you'll need a good light source (along with an airbrush) but spray the model black then use a really dark blue, like Tamiya XF-17 Sea Blue, as the shading. Then overcoat with clear blue, also from Tamiya. Just clear blue over black gives you gloss...

Re: Source For Ultra High Quality LEDs???

And make sure you are placing them in such a way that they're not overheating as that is death to LEDs. It'll kill a diode faster than overpower it. And how does one achieve that, the way in which the LEDs get placed is pretty much dictated by the model itself? What about securing them in place? I ...

Re: Material weight limits for base to model supports

If I'm concerned about weight being a problem I'll see how much the model box, with sprue, deflects what ever I'm thinking of using for support. This is easily done by setting the box on edge, sliding the rod or tube under and lifting. Yes, you'll have to guide it with one hand to keep it from falli...

Heck I've improvised with a decent spanner @ times.

The MicroMark chisels are nice, and they come pretty damned sharp but lose their edge faster than the Yellow House Model ones. YHM chisels are scary sharp.
