Re: 25th Anniversary, right?
Thought I'd post the link to this one. I'm pretty sure all of these kits have been issued, but I can't find any other pick builds. I do recall there was a contest for the logo design, b̶u̶t̶ ̶I̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶.̶ http://www.starshipmodeler.org/gallery11/miam_a...

Re: 25th Anniversary, right?
Wow...time flies. The earliest archived page from 98 has copyright 1997, but it does say since 1996 http://web.archive.org/web/19981212021244/http://starshipmodeler.com/ The question is (and this onezero would need to answer) is this indeed the first SM domain. As I recall, in the early days of the ...

Re: Stupid question, but....
Nobody mentioned "nurnies", which I do believe is the term generally applied to digital greebles(ies). Never bothered to check the spelling, and indeed it does seem the most prevalent form is greebles, but is that grēbəl (rhyming with tribbles), or grēbēs (rhyming with trapeze). It's like ...

I was going to start a new thread, but I think this link would fit quite nicely under this thread The blogger "mung" (who is listed as a member, but not a poster) has an extensive set of kitbash projects documented on his site - RC Sci Fi . He has also posted a " Model Kit Part Detail...

Re: Where did Starship "Aztecing" come from !?
I would also suggest that the idea of "aztecking" for scale did also come from the appearance of real subjects, particularly in natural metal finishes, where the variation in different components either through manufacturing process, assembly, or material becomes apparent as subtly differe...

Here's a pic of the material if you want to find something to duplicate it with. Re: Using Blender and other 3D drawing tools for builds
Posts here don't get deleted (or at least fairly long lived...oldest post in this area dates to 2008). It's more of a situation of getting pushed down the stack. If you want the thread to stay on page one, it needs to be pinned. I was thinking of adding more info with regard to Blender and physical ...

Given the abundance of ABS in toy applications, we should probably add to this thread how to deal with ABS as well (hec, the cheap Revell SW snap kits are ABS as well). I managed to get Cyanoacrylate to work with it, but fill was really difficult.

Re: Making decals
Periodically in these types of threads (decal paper) I hear mention of DIY rub down transfers. Invariably though, the materials seem to not have wide distribution or are generally marketed to other hobby markets such as scrap booking as opposed to modeling so they don't readily come up as a custom d...

I am trying to find the Boolean function for adding/subtracting one object from another. Let's say for example I have a cube and a cylinder. Using Blender and other 3D drawing tools for builds
I'm creating this thread for people to post stuff with regard to using 3d tools for creating models (hence in the scratchbuild thread). This is pretty much the route for starting out on a project if you are going to build something out of cardstock or paper or 3d printing. My own personal experience...

Hmm, yep a lot of kits out there for varying needs. I should have noted sooner having recently been to a lighting panel at this year's Arisia. Admittedly most of the people there were interested in costuming projects, but it all applies. I asked about what I thought of as somewhat cheaper and easier...

You might find this article helpful from IPMS stockholm https://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2002/08/stuff_eng_tech_moulding_canopies.htm it recommends PET-g over clear PS sheets (#6) and definitely against blister pack plastic mostly on being hard to work with due to it being optimized for indust...

Re: Instrument Panels
I've found that fixing transparency film can be a bit of a swine. Few adhesives stick to it and the few that do often damage it. My way round is to print onto decal film then apply the decal to a standard acrylic, ABS, PET or styrene sheet. The trick there might be to just sandwich the transparency...

I wonder if you can get an old one of those controller devices from someone who has upgraded to later editions. Controlling a few light circuits should not tax them at all. As far as the screens, I think I've seen some old video players, some in watch format, show up on clearance at discount shops. ...

maybe a more handy hack is adapting it to a 3V DC transformer so you can make do without the battery...although then you have to deal with the wire.

I was going over the BSG lightship posts in the CE3K mothership thread over in the general modeling area and there was this statement about it This would be something ideal for all-clear molding. You'd still have a ton of LEDs, of course. The technicalities of an actual lightship model aside, the th...

It seems the basic thing is work out some 3 or 6 view plans for the sub and scale that. (2D pantographs are fairly easy DIY projects)

Have you considered wood? Bit heavy if thrown, but could be quite sturdy. You do probably need a lathe and a jig saw. see:https://www.shelf-awareness.com/issue.html?issue=3442#m43549 There was someone who was a member here who would build wooden ships in the ST:TOS universe using things like round d...

Depending on the scale of what you are looking for, consider plastic test tubes. Generally cheap and in demand for college bio and chem students. Would allow for internal lighting since they are clear - just limited to no more than 2" max in diameter; generally much less. Endcaps can be spheric...

I figured it out. I rewired in parallel and it works now. Strange thing though, the nine volt lights everything up, but the original two double A power pack will not. I presume the situation is the following (+) ----✿---✿---✿---X---X--- (-) ✿ lit, X unlit where the easiest explanation would of course be the 4th one is wired wrong. Only other thing I can think of is poor contact under the solder on the 4th. If it's another pattern, I'm personally not sure what it ...
