Thanks very much. Sage advice. I've seen epoxy "minis" at the hobby shop that I'll likely go with. The best I'll be able to do on the Valdore is getting subassemblies together for painting and then gluing those and painting the joints in a second round. Cleaning with 409 or bleach or thinn...

Thank you, sir. Anyone else done well with any other brands of epoxy? I noticed some basically go back within a few days of opening and others are fine for weeks in the fridge. Not exactly much shelf life.

Epoxies for assembling models?

I searched and found not very much other than 'some epoxies damage plastic." I've got the new StarCraft Valdore and want something better than CA to glue the main wings. They're too thin to pin. I looked at 2 part epoxies at the hobby shop today but not sure what to use or how to use it. Is it ...

That may be the solution. As I look closer, it looks less like a rack and more like piping going in and out of various boxes.

Well in a 2-inch box, it will have to turn relatively tight. Would bending around 1/16gh be doable?

In terms of bending 90 degrees, can I do that with an oven eye or hot water? In terms of the bend retaining its shape, is rod better than tube?

Thanks. I might go the evergreen route. No soddering for me. Is the evergreen meant to be formed with no heat, low heat or direct exposure to a flame?

Oh, now you've done it. Take a look at these links below, especially the last showing the docked ships. There's a deck of boxes, etc. on the top of the centrifuge modules. Over them is an open grid/rack structure. That's not shown on the cover of the book you posted, which I have, too. IMO, t...

Spart Parts Trees for open hardware racks?

Anybody got any 1x2-inch parts trees laying around? There's a tubular framework around the equipment at the ends of the rotating modules on the Leonov from 2010. That's my best idea for replicating them. Anybody know of anything else like that with maybe 1/32 dia tubing? It's very open so mesh scree...

Ah, a product designed so I can carefully and with great flair deliberately screw up a build once and for all that was only 'not quite contest-worthy.' Thanks.

Thanks guys. Chad, I did prime it with Gunz Mr. Surfacer or Primer Surfacer, which I understand is laquer based and rumored to regular Dupont auto primer in a smaller, more expensive quantity. The primer dried, so I re-sprayed and the same areas still had soft paint. That's what threw me.

I've not tried acrylic paint on these. Hate to strip down to the bare nylon and try again. I prefer enamels, and in this case, I wanted to paint these a mix of Floquil reefer white and grime that I like.

How to cure paint that won't dry?

I have 3 of the same 3D printed model. I've repainted 2 of them at least 3 times because the paint won't dry in 2 areas - same place on both models. I've been using Floquil enamels. This last time I stripped both models down to the base material and repainted with Gunze spray primer and they seemed ...

OK, I've got 33 feet of blue 28 gauge wire coming my way. That should be enough for an invasion fleet. If I did the math right, that's 0.012 At the store, 0.014 Inch looked usable, so I think I'm good. Thought for a while that I was going to buy a 10-roll assortment. so we'll see how this works out....

Thanks. Yep, that looks usable, other than concern about how well paint might stick. I went by Wally World. They have some nice colored craft wire that's way too thick. They also have what's called 'beading wire' in .014 diameter that's perfect but the choices are silver or gold. Probably to be as s...

Yep, wire would be perfect and I think I've seen it before and didn't really think of the possibilities. But, specifically, I need it for a very small Vulcan ringship, so it really has to be about the thickness of invisible thread. I think that will be hard to find. As I sit here and think, it might...

Thanks guys. The wire's a great idea and there's a store close by. The mylar thread also looks promising, but it can't look ... fibrous. I kind of recall seeing the wire, but it has to be pretty small for my application. But great ideas. I gives me some directions to go.

luminescent craft thread?

I made that up. Has anyone seen/do you know of anyone who makes thread, preferably the diameter of 'invisible thread' with the color/sheen of the shiny mylar craft/gift ribbon? Or the brilliant metallic colored glitter in craft stores. Only I need it as a fine thread. Thanks.

Since I model in narrow, pilfered windows of time, I came home, set up the airbrush and gave it the quick once-over. The result: wrong shade, too much paint, dryer lint. Now for good or bad, it's stripped, drying and waiting on a more leisurely window of opportunity.

Thanks for the ideas. All the models were 3D. All had a pretty thick solidified coat of Gunze Mr. Resin Primer/Surfacer. I've painted a bunch of 3D models at this point. I've primed most of them and had only minor adherence issues. Does anyone know of any reaction caused by the use of mineral spirit...

Why won't my paint dry and how can I fix it?

One of five or six models I painted yesterday won't dry. In fact, I airbrushed 4 models with the same batch of mixed paint. One of them hasn't dried after setting for a full night. The others dried within minutes. I was painting with Floquil enamel thinned with Floquil thinner. My suspicion is that,...

Thanks, Blap. But presumably the 500 is better for filling gross flaws? So you brush 500 and spray 1000 and higher? The finer grain sounds great, but aren't most modelers going to sand it anyway down to at least 400 or 600 grit?

Thanks Kenny,
Great info. Have you used the Dupont primer surfacer and found out that it performs the same? Is it more like the 1000 stuff or the 500 stuff? 1000 seems thinner.

I always go up on material quality if it's just $2-3 between WSF and WSF Polished. Sometimes it's $10 or more, and I'm not gonna do that unless the subject is "grail" status to me. Not sure what accounts for the difference in what's charged. The material is pretty tough. I've bent parts ac...

To update you, there only 2 entries for Fill-n-Sand on e*bay now and only one quart entry and it's $53.50. I'd have to be cranking one or two models out a week to justify that.
