The Smooth-On stuff is what is used here at BLAP! Models. The 10:1 ratio rubbers are far more durable so will last for far more castings the then the 1:1 ratio stuff.

The 10:1 ratio rubber is pretty forgiving too. I measure by volume (I add about 10% extra catalyst) and get great molds.

Re: Degassing Silicone rubber

-what is degassing It is the process of removing the air bubbles from a mixed batch of rubber. -how is it done You mix your rubber as you usually would. You then place that tub of mixed rubber in a pressure pot. You seal up the pressure pot, attach your vacuum pump and run in for five to ten minute...

I have a 6x6 foot spray booth in the basement enclosed by plastic vapour barrier. It seems to keep the dust away not too bad.

To eliminate the bubbles you really need to pressurize your castings. And for that you need to degas you rubber when making your molds. Its a nasty cycle I know. If you knwo someone who can do this for you you might be in luck.

Actually that was me that needed the Robby. ;)

As for cutting into clear, I would just use your dremel on low speed. And do lots of filing to get them square.

The best scriber I have used is thr Olfa Specialty P-cutter blade. http://www.olfa.com/Products.asp?C=11&P=59 This blade lets you do superfine lines or heavy lines depending on the number of passes combined with the pressure applied. The scribbed lines are also V shaped so it works best for mast...

And if one doesn't have a drill press or a milling machine? I just have a pen-vice. Spend $85.00 Canadian and get one. For what you do its indespensible. You can put a sanding drum in it and all kinds of wonderful things that speed up the construction process. http://busybeetools.ca/cgi-bin/picture...

I voted for a collage as well. I think its it important to show the diversity of Sci-Fi modeling on the cover and only a collage can do that.
