this may be a little tough to explain but when you make your loftings(bulkheads). make sure that your top edge is the hightest point of the contour line. Then as you sand down to it, you will only sand to edge using this technique which I've used for years. You can pretty much do away with epoxy put...

Hmm,
For when you start presseure casting,rarely need to go over 32-35 psi... 50 is way too much and not necessary..just in case you didnt know, only a suggestion of course , take it or leave it...

I would nevr use steel brushes on files , I also clean em as soon as I see a build up starting, i usually only need brass wire brushes to do the job.. ohh and only brush 1 direction, away from the file, not back and forth, this is what dulls the teeth..

Here's a suggestion for chrome look ... duplicolor chrome in the rattle can works every bit as well as alclad from what i've seen...trick is to find a clear coat that doesn't dull the finish, to that effect dare i say it , the only thing i found that actually works without destroying the chrome look...

3m fine, medium grit scuffing pads is the trick i've used for years, then finish off with fine steel wool

Frank,
one thing i recently learned, if your water is not distilled(purified) , and can lead to lots of bumps(bubbles)....did you use perified water for these tests?

frank, my understanding from the techs is that you have to use ice water to do the pour. The mixture is kept as cold as possible before pouring and only then do you have about 32 secs according to them to do the actual pour, no time to pressure cast well not really anyway....but they claim it's not ...

polytek has a clear as well, poly-optic 1410 i think..... even have,like others, a clearish rtv compound
Smoothon also makes a clear rtv. kinda milky in the example i saw today though, but you can see your master pattern all around.....this is definitly a good thing for 1 piecers

thanks for the replies gents...thing is, i got this info from the guy himself...it is a sealer finisher, and he explicitly stated the non sandable in a qt or pint can, not spray... the important thing here is the color, dark gray in color but with a distinct blue hue...... the trouble is that most s...

yeah i talked to a lady rep that explained about the ice water to retard gelling time for the hydroshrink. sounds feasible just can't pressure cast the piece though with 32 sec to pour why would you want to lol on a good note i understand the hydroshrink is like water to pour considering it's mixed ...

my hydroshrink is on da truck.... comin. Erin, did you try the Hydrospan yet? i says it has a 35 shore A hardness to it for remolding once fully expanded...... thoughts?

ok, as this product interests me i contacted the company and asked about both productsm hydrospan does just as it says expand the casting using water to get uniform expansion..pretty cool! hydroshrink obviously does as it says too it is a urethane polymer not alginate it has strength to take a silic...
