Do you have any wiring, soldering, electronics skills? Easiest approach that I can think of would be to get a 9 volt battery and some pre-wired LEDs rated for 9 volts and some wire, 24-30 gauge for a long enough run to your battery. http://lighthouseleds.com/pre-wired-leds-1/9-volt-v-pre-wired-leds-...

Get a breadboard, a 555 timer chip, some 3mm LEDs and at least some 330, 470 ohms for some LED protection and 10k and 15k for flasher timing on the chip. Then check out some tutorials online unless you have some experience already, then play with the stuff on the breadboard. Get some 24 gauge (wire ...

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=838719 the link looks like it should help and includes an ssm link about the 4060 chip. the rc thread suggests using a 4017 instead of 4060 as from what I gather, the 4060 splits timing at various intervals per pulse for each pin while the 4017 would s...

Light blocking and gluing plastic window inserts question
I guess it is a question of sequence here. I am starting the revell Klingon d-7 and there are a number of clear plastic parts for window etc. Do I paint light block first? If so, how do I glue windows in as far as paint glue/adhesion? If I glue windows first, then do I mask and then paint block?

Thanks for the reference! Strobes are also of interest to me. I used the link below to build breadboard my nav and strobe circuit. You can use 2 555 timers or a 556 timer which is just 2 555s in one. The pin layout was a little harder for me to deal with on the 556, but I got there. http://electron...

http://electronicsclub.info/555timer.htm Scroll down to 555/556 Astable. Read about resistor 1 and 2 values to give you the on / off times that you want. Get yourself a breadboard kit. Some LEDs, resistors, small capacitors and a few 555 timers to play with. Lots of references on line. I have federa...

Are the 9V and 12 V power suplies different? If they are the 12V supply is pulsed DC. Somewhere on it you'll see a symbol that looks like a dashed line. He says there is no flicker from the 12V supply when hooked up to just one strip, so I don't see it being a pulsed DC issue. I am thinking that th...

http://www.arduino.cc/ To move beyond starter kit programs, C++ coding would be helpful, but your hacking skills may be sufficient. I have gone through the lighting projects in sparfuns' starter kit. There would seem to be a number of ways to script the same sort of project. One of the pages I visit...
