I think it was the "signed angry" that got peoples dander up. Got mine going. I agree. What's up with that? I read the original post too and saw that LTSO gave a great answer with the Easy-off. Not much to add to LTSO's great answer so I didn't bother. It was kind of dumb for irishtrek to...

I use this one.
Unfortunately it's still expensive but it's been my 'bestest' friend at the workbench when I need to grind away at some resin.

Sorry dude your screwed....
Just kidding! :)

Don't worry. The plastic will heal all by itself. Just give it some time.
I've had that happen before with styrene kits using solvent based putties.

What exactly are you trying to mask? I'm assuming you are trying to mask out the solar panel areas on the wings. Why not just use plain old cheap blue painters tape from the hardware store? I have never heard of the 'vaseline and elmers glue technique' and I would think that going that route would b...

I'm gonna second that on the Plasticote, Mr B. It's exactly like Floquil Primer but CHEAPER by the spray can. It can be thinned with lacquer thinner for certain airbrushing applications and it's the only primer that I'll use. BTW use a spray booth to ventilate the fumes. Or even a window box fan on ...

I was thinking of painting the 'red' areas first and cutting thin strips of tape the exact width of the 'stripe' and taping over the red areas. Then I would shoot some black over it and once it was cured I'd peel away the tape strips revealing the red stripes.
It might work.

I sort of 'over thin' my acrylic top coat till they are almost translucent. That way the preshade underneath can still show thru.

How about using a straw? They are pretty cheap and free if you visit McDonalds or whomever. You could cut a straw to a shorter workable length, mark a line on the bottom tip guesstimating how much paint you might want and dip it into the paint at that mark. Just close off the top opening with your f...

Gunze Sangyo Clear flat.
I used to use Microscale and even the Testors stuff but the Gunze Sangyo tops them all.

Terry's advice is right on the money. Your going to have to trash that paint job to smooth out the under surface. I haven't worked with a vinyl kit in a while but a simple wet sand with some of that 3M wet/dry/ sand paper always does the trick. Big modeling rule: Always prepare the surface before pr...

Re: I gesso

.....Thoughts? Laughter? My immediate series of thoughts were: HUH? WHAT? WHY? and 'Is this guy a ........?' But seriously, it looks like you got it to work, but I don't think that stuff is permanent on styrene. You are right that some people use gesso for priming canvasses for oil painting. I use ...

Well the red in the photo does look like a combination of a lot of red, a drop or two of yellow and a teensy bit of white to lighten it up a notch.

Or.....use Testors Rust with a drop or two of white in it. I picked Testors because it's a little more on the reddish side.

I also couldn't go last year due to me being stuck at work.
I'm definitely going this year.
I'm interested to see if their 'Kung Fu' is better than my 'Kung Fu'.
