Very cool Darph Bobo ! I was wondering about that myself as I bought as set of these myself some time back but hadn't tried them out yet. . You mention J2/J4 but is there a diagram showing which leads need to be switched ? J2 and J4 are labeled on the circuit board. You just have to be careful, as ...

I use the Saran trick all the time. It's great for making removable conversion bits. Ah most learned one in the arts of AVES... I knew you would have discovered this long before I. Though art indeed learned in the ways of AVES. Verily shalt I use Saran wrap to putty between the removeable ext...

I just recently got a set of those, VERY nice. I had one point to make though. the nacelles both rotate clockwise. After talking to Steve from Culttvman, reversing the leads J2/J4 on ONE of the boards will make it rotate in the opposite direction. For less that fifty bucks, you can't go wrong! Very...

AVES and Saran wrap
I discovered a neat trick using AVES and Saran wrap. I'm working on a scratch/bash spaceplane involving hinged doors. The doors cover a round opening where the forward landing strut telecopes out. Anyway, each door is a half round and they fit flush to the fuselage when closed; however, there were a...

For round objects you could use a hose clamp.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3164/289 ... f6d3_o.jpg
Tighten it down with a screwdriver. You could stick tape to the inner surface to minimize abrasions and provide more traction; not to big an issue if the parts are unpainted.

J-B Weld for casting
Does anyone remember a post about a guy who used J-B Weld to make molds for casting small resin parts ? I'm looking for an easy way to cast three small 3/32" diameter clear resin globes for spacemen helmets; I'd rather not have to use liquid latex for something so small if there's an easier way...

I've made some CA glue applicators by trimming the loop end of a sewing needle into a tiny fork, and pushing it into an old eraser. Hey that sounds like a handy tool. Think I'll try that myself ! Personally, I've used metal hose clamps for scribing lines on cylinders most notably on the AMT 18"...

I used to use the Testors clearcoats myself but you sure pay a premium for a small spray can. Lately I've started using Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic for gloss finishes and Matte Finish for flat coats. You really get a lot more for the money. Works great, dries fast, and won't yellow over time like l...

AVES and CA glue
Forgive me if this is old news to everyone but I was working at my bench last night and happened to get some CA on my fingertips. A nuisance to be sure but no big deal; I can usually get it off with a little scrubbing at the sink. Anyway, I was also doing some puttying with AVES and noticed as I rol...

I was at Target yesterday, and in their back-to-school section, I found very nice little paint stands. They would be perfect for holding small pieces for painting. They are little plastic cubes, about 1 inch on a side, with a piece of stiff braided wire coming out of one face and extending maybe 3 ...

YELLOW, AMBER, RED, most GREEN LEDs tend to operate best at between 1.8 and 2.4 volts. WHITE, some GREEN, most BLUE LEDs are happiest at between 3.4 and 3.6 volts. So, take your 6 volts supply voltage, subtract the operating voltage of your LED, allow 0.020 amps for the LED and apply Ohm's law. 6 -...

Another trick if you are working with a rounded piece that the clips won't grip easily grip or if your worried about the clip marring the part is to apply 2 sided foam tape to a stir stick or tongue depressor. Cut the tape to the width of the stick, peel off one side, stick it to the end of the stic...

Ever heard of Helping Hands ?
http://www.hobbytool.com/helpinghandswm ... glass.aspx
Not sure if this'd work for you since you'd need a way to insert the part while holding the alligator clip open. Is there someone around who could assist you for that first step in the process ?

I put CA on little squares of waxed cardboard I cut from the separator they put between the two layers of soda cans when you buy a case at COSTCO. Has anyone tried doing an aztec with alternating flat and gloss panels and then overspraying with a single coat of semi-gloss ? My thinking is the flat would become slightly glossier while the gloss would become slightly flatter but so long as you didn't overdo the semi-gloss you would still be able...
