Smooth Cast 300 is a good product for this sort of casting.
It "snap cures" to a rigid plastic (meaning that it has no semi flexible stage) so sag and warping should be less of a concern.
Hope that helps

I have to agree with Chacal about the filler idea. At my last job I had to develop a lighted button for an amplified speaker. 8 LED's behind the button. 4 white for power on status switching to 4 red for overload status. We were getting hot spots no matter what we did...we tried frosting the inner s...

Seeking the wisdom of the Aves
Can any of you Wizards of Aves point me in the direction of an effective release agent for Aves Sculpt? I've tried vaseline and nearly messed the bed ( if you get my drift  ) I'm trying to fit a tenon to a slot by making the slot oversized and packing it with Aves then pressing the part with t...

High build sandable primers
I'm partial to "Plasti-Cote's" Sandable White Primer.
It's lacquer based and dries quickly.
Very smooth when applied right.
If you need high gloss...follow up with 3-4 light coats of Future and polish, polish. polish.

You didn't knick into the tank itself did you? I'm just wodering what that might do to its structural integrity. Good idea with the mold release. Dennis I was a little concerned about that very thing when I read this post. Had a thought...what about setting a pc. of strapping of some sort ( metal b...

Macfrank ..FYI...both alcohol ( the stuff leaching out of your tin cure mold) and acetone are effective solvents for epoxy. Either of these materials in your mold will cause the issues you've been dealing with. Also, epoxy is a heat set resin and silicone acts as a heat sink..robbing heat from the ...

Keep in mind that the silicone robs heat from the resin... Heat is what cures the resin....the catalyst is there to create heat. Also, you can get a negative reaction from the silicone as well.( Thats why I use platinum cure silicones for clear parts...no alcohol ) Standard silicone gives off alcoho...

If you are speaking of a polyester resin ( the type used with fiberglass ) then too much resin will do a number of things.... 1) Too much heat will be generated causing the resin to shrink exsessivly perhaps even cracking from internal stresses 2) The clear resin will get cloudy 3) the heat generate...
