I can see some problems arising if people are not in place ready to go promptly at 0900. We either need a back-up plan or to re-write the scenario. Does it make sense to devote a half-hour in the beginning a a general intro? Time for Steve to lay the ground rules of the day and Tracy to say a few sy...

Requesting rules clarification on dioramas. Seems impossible\difficult to provide good subject material without some kind of background in support of it, beyond the text means. I'm not sure what you're asking. Can you elaborate? Have a look at Jshmus' Alternate History: Model Example thread. That's...

Ah, but Editor's choice is up to judges (well, me) and I judge on teh-nical merit .... what I can see of it, anyway

BUT in that Perry-example case building a real lunar lander and just writing a short description that this is Perry on the moon (instead using the STARDUST as he did in the novels) is an allowed entry for the contest. OK, that makes two of you getting far too wrapped up in definitions and, no pun i...

[I think I am confused. You're thinking too much, Umi. The topic isn't a doctoral dissertaion. All you have to do is think: in this timeline, if event _a_ happened instead of the event _b_ that 'really' happened, vehicle _c_ might result and I'll build that. IF special order 191 had not been lost (...

Uhm... "alternate history" regarding to what? The history has to be different than the timestream that really happened, whether that timestream is the one we inhabit or a fictional one. So, in your example above, an alternate history for Perry Rhodan would be that Perry went to the moon b...

I'm not gonna get down in the weeds and quibble about what is or is not "science fiction". For the purposes of this contest, if it didn't happen but could have (under some set of circumstances) then it's in.

Judging will be by popular vote, as always. I'll just note that swapping decals to depict another nationality (P-51D License built by the Nazis, for instance) is unlikely to get many votes.

Re: Help me out here

Say I wanted to do an alternate Macross/Robotech Universe, where the Zentraedi didn't show up until after the SDF-1 had launched, and the technology for space war had been a bit more perfected? Could I do some kind of new space fighter/bomber that the RDF would have used as a heavy weapons platform...

OK, as of 16 January, here are the guidelines I've come up with for the "Departures" contest. The idea was sparked by comments from readers in general (and in particular by some eMail correspondence with En'til Zog) and gelled when reading Harry Turtledove's "Departures" collecti...

This means that life still goes on for most humans, and we can have some sort of stable backdrop against which our heroes operate, i.e. mining colonies, shipping lanes, industry, commerce, things like that. I was being flip with the Spanish Inquisition reference, but perhaps that's not a bad idea. ...
