Macfrank is correct. SSRs will last ... indefinitely, if not abused . What, you mean like using them to switch the legs 240 VAC power against the neutral leg so you can swap between 120 and 240 ... but not taking into account the speed of the switching so you get a dead short running straight out o...

LCD Keychain "Photo Album"

Hi All, Has anyone tried out one of those new LCD keychain photo albums? A bunch of us doing the Captain Cardboard Space Pod are looking to use one (or three) as displays in the cockpit and were wondering if anybody's got experience ripping them apart to get at the screens and/or doing a bit of rewi...

I've found that vibrating the mold can help drive out some gas bubbles. I used a reciprocating sander.

I really like the seal a meal idea, though - got one of those guys with the separate canister-on-a-hose arrangements. Thanks for the idea.

Pulsar Vacuformer?

Has anyone tried this Pulsar Vacuformer? http://www.pulsarprofx.com/UniVac/index.html

If so or if not, any thoughts about it? What the heck is the "cooking bag" technique?

I have one sitting in the basement - tried it once when I got it off EvilBay. Wasn't happy with the results but in looking the thing over I realized it needed some work to get it back up to speed and haven't had the time. Definitely noticed the need for grease on the piston, but hadn't thought about...

White Metal Parts - Cleanup and Finishing

Hi All, I've got some white metal arms for my CC 2001 Space Pod and want to know what I should do with them. The surface seems pretty smooth (other than seams), but they've got a mottled finish. Buffing results in a nice shiney surface, but I don't know if I need to do this before priming. So, do I ...

Oh, fine, Kenny, come up with an obvious answer. Heading off to Wally World this afternoon. Thanks! Let you know how it works out.

OK, how's this for the stupid question of the day - does anyone know where in Southeastern Massachusetts you can buy Future? The aisles of the local Stop & Shop are filled with every quicky floor cleaning gizmo imaginable (Swiffer this, Chlorox that, Oxyclean the other thing, Orange Glow ....) b...

Too bad you already have the parts molded - you could have ...

* Popped down to Staples, picked up a cheap customizable stamp kit.
* Pulled your pieces out of the mold before they'd quite set.
* Stamp them with the letter of your choice.

Ah, well.

I *think* I just answered my own question by going to the link posted earlier by En'til Zog. The All Electronics kit ( http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/EL-2504/213/JUMBO_EL_LIGHTING_KIT_.html ) appears to be identical to the E-Clec-Tech one, and states that it can run up to 6 of these pane...

Rather than start a new thread for my question, I'll co-opt this one ('cuz it's related): I am finally getting ready to do the final assemly/lighting work on my 2001 space pod and am planning on using material from E-Clec-Tec - they have a (relatively) inexpensive starter kit ( http://www.e-clec-tec...

Hi Pat,

Thanks! That's exatly what I was looking for. Perfect size and the light idea is just super. Easy to store, too!

Off to Wally World to pick up a clear storage container, then Lowes for the rest.

Paint Box/Booth Design

Hi All,

I'm finally getting ready to prime my Captain Cardboard Pod and need to build a paint booth. Are there any good plans available? Should I just wing it with a big cardboard box and a stove exhaust fan and some filters?

Thanks for the help! Paulbo

A good (or even semi-good) art supply store will carry it in 1/4" and 1/8" thickness. Staples/Office Depot/Office Max carry it in colors, and even have it with adhesive backing. Note on the adhesive stuff - it stinks! Don't bother with it if you're trying to skin your model. You're better ...
