i just took my one (home made) sander with some fine wet/dry sand paper on it and took several passes over the plastic strips (no longer shinny) and then took the hobby knife and dragged it over the srips i was adding the detail to until it was nice and dull (thinking maybe the plastic glue was crea...

i'll give it a try (the tiny .010 strip might not like it, but i'll give it a go). it would be so great if this did work, would save soo much time and money if i could get it done (i know i have to do that with the gray plasti - something stuff)

interesting tool. i thought at first as i was reading it that you were going to say he used the needle point to poke the part and then touch the part into the drip of glue. then when you said he cuts off the eyelt end, i thought he held the part in place in the cut eyelt space. interesting idea thou...

Scatchbuilding masters - i'm done, as in i give up

I am tired of tring to work on my masters as nothing seems to glue together. I am using Evergreen stripping to make up the greeble for the brim trench of the Allegiance so i can send it out to ralph soon, but for at least two weeks of trying, i can't get a damn thing to stick. I had this problem bef...

Cleanclay, can't find it locally, what about Modeling Clay?

i find myself needing more clay than what I have on hand to finish prepping a mold. I thought I saw cleanclay at either Micheal's or AC Moore, but i find today that neither have it. i did pick up a packet of Modeling lay by Van Aken as it stays soft and won't harden when backed, but haven't nuked it...

cutting matt questions

i amlooking to get a cutting matt but am wondering just how sturdy the surface is? i mean, if i put a strip of say .030 x .250 plastic on the matt and start to cut a piece out of it (and i don't mean scoring it to snap and break), will the matt allow the strip to sink into itself or will it hold sol...

not sure what mine is, it's Smooth-cast 321 rubber.

as to it sitting, i can't say i have had a problem from SC yet. i tey have a habit of being out of stock once in a while, so i don't think it's sitting onthe shelves that long.

Rubber setting too fast - humidity?

I thought maybe it was the older batch of rubber being the cause of the rubber setting up too fast, but i started using a new tub today and i only did 5 simple, small molds, so pouring time was about 10 minutes if that. but the rubber was turning into bubblegum before i was done and now it looks lik...

i don't think that using a release agent is anything complicated. it's just a matter of giving a slight spray/mist on/into the mold prior to putting the mold halves together.

puting barrier on the first half of the mold prior to pouring the second mold half can be more troublesome.

oh, they show you that if you let the rubber trickle from a mixing cup into the form, it will take care of the air bubble thing? maybe with their stuff it might. since i have been using a vac pump it makes a world of difference. with that, i can do around 10 small molds at a shot (i think the most i...

:? where exactly are you looking for this "How To" video? is it under the books and DVDs?

and is that also refering to the "It is not conducive to making multiple molds at one time, and requires a stable protected area to in which to 'pour' the mold" coment?

i am not familure with all of their products, so i would say just email them and ask them about a started set and to be sure to get a rubber that doesn't require a de-gassing/vaccum chamber.

wasn't worried about nicking the tank. as for the saran wrap, never thought about it when i first started with that tank. i was trying to think of something like a super thin piece of spring steal or plastic that would spring open to formt ot he walls of the tank and hald something like a small tras...

as far as i know, resin doesn't react well to dampness, and i know clay is moist, so i would think it wouldn't mix to well.

ya, i've noticed that when i warm up my clay just a tad too much, it sticks to my rolling pin (12" long 2" pvc pipe). And when using a new block of clay, it's best to rap it in some saran wrap of something clear and set it on the dash board of the car and let it warm up in the sun and try ...
