It depends, do you prefer to paint then assemble? No paint on the windows that way, but the paint job may suffer damage when glueing etc to assemble it. If you assemble everything then paint, try some liquid masking...um...liquid. I grabbed a bottle at the LHS and it seems to work ok. HTH. j

What about drying times? I paint my base coats with Testors rattle cans. Example: I sand the entire surface of my resin models with 1000 grit paper. Then I wash them thoroughly, dry them and apply thin coats of (insert color here). I am currently on week 2 for drying time on a Pioneer class for exam...

^^^what he said. Werkt fer me that last time I did it.
Usually though, with standard putty, I just let each layer cure for a couple days between sandings.

Thanks kylwell. It actually never occurred to me to apply pastels to a "bare" model. As in not gloss coated. My though was that it may "bond" (not the right word) to the paints, making corrections near impossible. I did have some of the lighter shades of grey and tan fade out on ...

I have just starting using the pastels for weathering. Hell for that matter I just started weathering. I have not tried a wash yet, will try that soon though. Anyhow, my question, I have been weathering directly to the gloss coat and have had reasonable results. Does this make a difference? Will the...

I'm a post shader type.
First, I find it easier to control, useing pastels and a dry brush.
Second, I don't have an airbrush as yet, so the one time I tried preshading, I completely covered it.

At my current level of experience, it seems to work.
Both ways can represent very nicely though.

I don't save anything.

Well, that is until I started coming here so much. No I see potential starship parts everywhere. Now I troll around the house looking for stuff to take apart! :D

Wait...what's that over there...........

Did you use Testors Dullcote by chance? I learned the hard way after making some decals with drafting ink. Testors Dullcote being a Laquer based product just acts like a harsh solvent on the glue, thus making it run/dissolve. I would use an acrylic gloss/dullcote and test it out first. Then I wold ...

Be careful with what ink you use. My experience has been, unfortunately, not good. The ink went on very well. even gloss coated ok. Upon application of the dull coat, it ran and smudged and turned a lighter color than what it had started out as. Overall effect....bad. :( Me upon finding said results...

How?
Do you apply the gel directly to the swap and then set about the work or the other way around?

It would seem that you are not alone in your struggles. I too have had some sanding problems. Clogged paper etc. I'm careful with making the ratio as accurate as possible. I have let the stuff set for weeks, (hell, one model is going on months) and still have had touble getting it to sand. :( Strang...
