Make sure the board still works by hooking it up to a good 9V battery. If the board's okay, make sure the adapter is wired to the board with the correct polarity. If that's right, the problem is probably that the adapter is putting out something other than steady DC, like rectified AC. This makes y...

I tried that, nothing. That's why I'm stumped. Did that with two different adapters and still the circuit didn't light. Yet at the battery it does. I'm thinking that the circuit is safe guarded at 9v and adapters actually give off a bit above 9v. That's why the circuit lights at the battery and not ...

Joe I hooked up several other LED's to the breadboard and they light up just fine. I'm so perplexed. (Can I say that?) I switched out adapters, wire...in case of a short, different slots on the breadboard because some just don't connect (and use slots that are known to connect) I'm at my wits end.

Strobe/Flasher circuit

For those who know way more than I do. I purchased a single LED Flasher circuit from the Fiber Optic Store. This product here: http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=3_72_73&products_id=1264 And it comes pre-wired to a 9v battery clip. I wanted to hard wire it to a perman...

Just found out by some guys at SMA that you can use various amounts of Tamiya Flat mixed with Future and get great results. Scott from Elm City Hobbies uses this recipe. 1 part flat base to 3 parts Future = very flat 1 part flat base to 10 parts Future = flat 1 part flat base to 15 parts Future = sa...

Tamiya Flat Base X-21, I know it's used to dull down paint. It can actually flaten out some Tamiya Gloss colors pretty well too. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever used it as a final flat coat to finish off their model? Can this be used like MM Flat Clear Acryl?

Not familiar with the brand name, could be TCP's, but I guess if the needle size is .35 - .50 and the compressor can push out 30 psi it could be a good beginners set up. The price looks great. If anything you can learn on that and upgrade later and use this as backup.

What type of wire do you use?

Kind of curious as to what you guys use. I've been using 30 gauge Kynar wire and I find that after several runs of testing my lighting, connecting to power and so forth, the circuit fails and nothing lights. (this drives me nuts as I have to undo all my work and sometimes do it thru finished product...

Not familiar with it. Have used the blue stuff from Microscale. Works pretty good but seems that rubber cement could do the same thing. Though I think it would be impossible to control. The blue liquid mask by Microscale can be brush on and has very good surface tension as long as you use it on a fl...

Hey Falsy, Brad is right on this. I too have a black thumb with electronics but what he suggests is spot on. Ever since I invested in a breadboard and a small hookup wire set my "black thumb" moments are less and less. But by all means get a good breadboard! I picked you a cheap one and mo...

I believe the benefit is that if you wire them up in series if one burns out the whole thing goes out. In parallel if they all go out then your eyes are closed.

Sorry Ty I'm gonna go with Mr. Osborn on this one. 5-minute epoxy for me is the way to go. I tried the CA but could never get the stuff to stick. Maybe I'm using the wrong CA. Which brand are you using that bonds the LED's well?

I have the thick gel-like Gorilla Glue but never tried it on FO. My experience with CA and FO comes from using the Crazy Glue brand. That stuff made the fiber brittle. Maybe it's far hotter then other CA formula's but I'm from the understanding that CA is a glue, not a solvent. I guess it could be j...

Not many options when it comes to gluing these puppy's in. In thinking outside the box you may have a bit of luck with rubber cement just as long as there is little to no tension on the FO. Yeah, my experience with FO and CA has been the same as yours, fiber gets brittle and easily breaks. Love to k...

Florjon do a search here on SSM on this subject. There is a thread that covers this exact problem with the resin warping on the kit.
