I ain't no Geordi and I figured it out from the same link that I posted above. I think you have to watch out for polarity. If it doesn't work lined up in one direction, turn it around and try it the other way.

Does anybody have any comparison diagrams for monostable vs astable? This is new to me. Incidentally, was just farting around with this stuff last night on my breadboard, trying to get a strobe to work. I am able to get an LED to blink, but not strobe. Like, the off time resistor was a 120k or a 20...

This is my 556 timer. The signal diode is a 1N4148. This gives me about a 1/10 of a second on and 3/4 second off.

Diode: 1N4005 Why do you need this? It's a rectifier to control high voltage surges from what I am reading.

Magnet wire is what you are after. Check Boyds' video again. I saw it as well.

look for wire stripper that can handle smaller gauge. I picked up one a few years ago that goes to 30 gauge.

I'll assume you are using 3 or 5mm LEDs, probably white and as such likely require 3 to 3.4 volts each. 2 such LEDs in series would require 6 volts to get them to light nicely. So far I have only lit a d-7. I glued the LED in place and let the wires lay where they were. I am working on the 1/537 refit and trying the Raytheon effect. So far epoxy as well as lepages' ultra gel super glue have failed to hold the led/wire in place. What do I need to use hold the LED and wiring...

Use your basic layout for making a nav flashing led and then put a signal diode (1n4148) in parallel with R2. It works well. Picture is in this link.

I have only done one model with fiber optics. I used 2 part epoxy for the strands. I would like to suggest cuticle nippers to get them as flush as possible. More patience than I had is needed to drill a series of windows in a straight line. (they look ok at a distance though)
