Hello Artships Say "hovertank" to me and my first thought is a conventional tank with the bottom lopped-off where the wheels would be. You'll need to read the begin of the thread, the observation you make is exactly what HWR MkII was trying to get away from, while it may make for a nice lo...

Hello HWR MkII,
I do recall seeing this as a WIP a long while back. Good that this challenge has re-invigorated you. Look forward to seeing your latest pics.

Hi TonyG2 I've seen these links before, some of the simpler designs are good and have potential - i like the Schneider HT. But the converted Hover cars don't make sense as they look to much like a car, right down to the wheel arches. If you were designing a Hovering vehicle from the start you'd be u...

Lt Zombie Good point and one i've not addressed on my current build, though it does have vectored thrusters projecting forward that would give the "bite " you mention. I would guess an AG vehicle would require the AG units to be at the vehicle extremities to counter the un-even ground as ...

Slightly related but Concorde, had to have a self sealing tanks fitted after the Air France incident, I'm not sure if it had foam inserted into the tanks too. Yes, I guess Military stuff is not going to be "in the Open": but these days where many defence manufacturers are competeing with e...

Sorry for the delayed responses - time difference. Hello Kylwell Do you know if any modern AFVs have the fuel arrangement you mention? I would guess that the foam while making the fuel storage more stable, would significantly reduce the amount able to be stored in the same space, and a reason the mi...

" Vickers FV4210 Chimera"--1st Pics--19/01/10

Pictures will follow, and It will be interesting to hear you spot the parts in use. My first build goes well, and offically is called FV 4210 CHIMERA by Vickers unsurprisingly :) So far the massive rear engine grill is built, and the body shape has been roughed out but the parts need tidying and san...

Hi Kylwell , Surely fuel would be a draw back as during its use constant balencing to trim the hovering tank would be needed? If power was needed to high volumes maybe batteries would be better as they are a constant weight and fixed. Also a battery is less likley to cook off than a fuel tank if the...

I know what you mean Dr Yo Conventional design would need a balence of fuel weight against a very powerful engine just to generate anough powerr to lift an armoured vehicle. ( a bit like lifting a Harrier Aircraft, then having enough fuel to do stuff with it) However an antigrav vehicle would be in ...

As mentioned in the intial challenge, my first design will be more about look than functionallity but certain things will be incorperated. 1. A wide flat body form. = To trap maximumn ground effect to aid in bouyancy to the hull as it rides a cushion of air. 2. Turret.= I know there isn't a need as ...

The Practicle aspects of Hover Tank design. Discus not Argue

Thread dedicated to having fun but informed discussion on all things related to Hover tanks and how they might really work May as well get this thread up straight away as I know nearly everyone will have some ideas or counter thoughts about HT design. I ask on behalf of Sean and One zero:- keep in ...

I'm sure if a special Board forum gets green lighted, all sorts of permitations will be posted and developed. HT's have featured in other Genres, as well as the scratch building challenge that HWR MkII has thrown down. I expect that the " AFV with out wheels so must be a HT" variations wil...

:D So Sean, are you building something now? I'm not so much as taking apart stuff to free up parts. Design idea roughed out- and it uses some of the nozzles you saw before for vectoring thrust. ( but that was on a kit bash from an afv hull so not being used now, plus it wasn't a great design anyway,...

Plus, if "Hover tanks" did get a forum on the special boards, then a thread on talking about the "thereticals of Hover tank design and use" could be set up that doesn't hijack the build challenge. I recall HT chat ran to many pages before as did Heer 46 and panzer development, so...

Hello John , I think it may be a good idea, I'd expect this thread to run with the same longevity as the Post apoc Car build. However I defer to HWR MkII as this is his baby. So far I have come to the following conclusion, If I really think about a hover tank design then form will follow function, a...

i'M IN! HWR MKII Considering how much we talk tanks I don't know why you've never suggested this before. Maybe One Zero could officalise this by setting it up on the special boards as a challenge? I can see it being a runner? So flesh out the details, when to be complete? how to be revealed etc. And...

Hi, instead of tree branches look to a smaller plant. I find the dead wood from Rose stems very good as it replicates the rings of a larger log but is smooth and straight on its outer surface matching a trunk of younger tree. If you need twisted old logs then the older stems of Heather are nice and ...

As i voted for X-wings, I'd be happy if the general "new republic ships" cat was selected as i could still do it.

So what happens now?

sorry, one last thing i forgot to put before.

I REALLY don't think we are in this for prizes and would prefer not to see that as the reason to continue with a Non S M comp. The love of modelling, Star wars or fun should and is for me the basis.

the new comp idea

It looks to be a very intresting if wide open catogory for a competion, the key will be the rules, but also I supose the submission of back stories along with entries. Will they be as important as the actual model? Or prehaps if dioramas are allowed; that they should be able to get across to the vie...
