What kind of printer? If it's inkjet I'd be very careful as to what you put on it or else the ink will run. I'd stick with lacquer and go easy on it. If it's laser then Future would be fine.

Before even getting to the primer I'd be sure to clean the surface with at least rubbing alcohol. I also like Rust-Oleum's surface prep as it's much less harsh than standard wax and grease removers. You might see if you can scuff the metal lightly as well, such as with a fine steel wool or scouring ...

Yeah, no problem with it. The only thing is that craft paint coverage is not that great as it is, and you're going to be taking that away even more. That's why I personally use it more for blending, especially on small figures, for which it works great. You can get kind of in between straight paint ...

One of the best model primers I've ever used is the $1 stuff from Walmart. I think it would be a lousy primer for a (real) car due to being thin, but that's perfect for things of a small scale.

What is gun tape?

Most tapes will provide electrical insulation. Heck, they used to use a sort of masking tape in older electric guitars (which restorers go to great pains to preserve).

As long as it's sticky and non-metallic I wouldn't worry.

I never had any luck with those enamels, they always stayed tacky. Same here, although I never airbrushed them. It's just a clear finish that gives a flat (rather than glossy) look to a model. Useful for making something look used or even just to give it a more in-scale surface finish. Takes the shine off, basically. :8)
