I've been thinking about possible technologies around which our hover tanks could be built. These range from past/present day techs to pie-in-the-sky miracle SF techs. Here's my understanding of what they might be like. 1. Lift fans: Something like the Avrocar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VZ-9_AV_A...

Thanks, DEC

I'm not going to worry too much about recoil, since I'm designing a fictional tank, not a real one. I'll assume that whatever SF tech is packed into this tank also takes care of any recoil.

You might want to fire at a target on a fly-by. Say you have a turret and point it to the side. You move forward with the bulk of the tank in a line. You might not go as fast moving sideways with a spinal mount hoverpod due to air-resistance. Recoiless systems would also seem to be de rigueur. As w...

I'd call it an assault gun as the main armament appears to be fixed in the foward arc... . One of the points I argued in the original hover tank thread some months ago was that *if* the hull is fully mobile and *if* the gun can be trained on the target while the tank is moving, a turret is an unnec...

Masao's Hovertank design.

OK Mr Smarty smart.... :D Enough talk. Lets see your design. DEC, HWR MKII, and myself have threads showing actual work. (Well two of us do anyways) :D It's your turn now. Make us a tank that is a tank but does not look like a tank as we think of a tank in the tank sense. Tanks! http://img.p...

TRADE FED Hover Tanks; I've made a few of them. Should I link em as they fit this challenge? And lets talk about flaws in there design as they had a few. 1. why crew it with robots? Surley if you remove a human function the tank can be the robot itself - fully automonus. DEC I attribute it to the p...

Like a lot of SF vehicles (and, especially Star Wars vehicles), the snowspeeder acts like an airplane because it was designed by present day designers to do so. It basically acts like a (very) low-flying A-10. Similarly, the Trade Federation "tank" is used like a WWII AFV to lead infantry ...

Is an ESB snowspeeder a hovertank? It's got big guns, it hovers, it engages armored vehicles. Does its relative lack of armor make it a non-tank?
