Doesn't the XBox Kinect have something like a 2D scanner that it turns into a 3D picture?

Selling parts/models directly from the 3D printer is not cost effective in the least unless the parts are very, very small.

In my experience:

Putty is your best all around seam filler, and building up structure.

Paste is a little thinner, and works best when filling seams on more organic structures, like figure joints.

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools nearby, they have all those grits up to 1200 for like $4 for 5 sheets of 8" x 11". Or Wal-Mart has less of a selection, but they do have lots cheap.

I have a expanded polystyrene ball with a hole that could be used as the base, and I can use some wire to start the wings, but I'm unsure what to use to mold the tentacle and facial features with. Take your paint chip to Lowe's or Home Depot. First, go through the color pallettes there, and if you don't find what you need, have them scan it in their computer matching machine. You might have to buy a gallon of it, but hey, you've spent $30 on paint before, right?

Go to your local auto parts supply store and pick up something called "JB Weld." It's a 2 part compound, that when kneaded together, then cured, forms an indestructable steel-like bond. You have a few minutes working time to form and manipulate your shapes, but once it's hardened, that's i...

Heat. If It's a part that won't warp too badly, put a nice coat of talc on it, then put it in the oven at really low temp for a few hours. The talc will absorb some of the moisture, and the heat will "post cure" the resin. Worth a shot...
