If I add a transistor as a driver, it could power many LEDs. A simple variable resistor could adjust the frequency. Luckily, the 555 timers really can push a lot of current anyhow. Component wise, it isn't that much. I figure $3 for a board (produced in quantity), $1 for 555 timers, and $1 for misce...

Introducing the Pegasus Flasher Board

https://www.dropbox.com/s/iqsfcxur36oyxlt/pegasusboard.jpg Hi guys, I'd like to share my new pegasus board. Even though I know there are other sellers, I have thought of selling these to the community. I am not sure if its worth it though. I wonder if I could order a 100 etched and drilled boards fo...

"Shimmering" blue LED for engines?

I'v been in a "make my own custom PCB circuit boards" kick recently.

My 2010 Galactica has static blue LEDs for the engines. I want to have shimmering LEDs. Electronically how can this be done?

Thank you!

You can always learn electronics :)

My circuit is a more advanced version, but if all you need is blinking red/green lights and a strobe, the circuit is super simple. It'd be probably 1/5 the complexity as the circuit I posted.

It's like working with maple syrup. I want to fill in fine seams, not make a total mess. Any tip-a-Roos are welcome!

Build your own! It's easy and fun!

But they cost $30-$50 if you buy a pre-made by madman lighting. Or $10-$20 if you make it yourself.

It is three 555 timers and one 4017 decade counter. The outputs are notated through darlington pairs.

Ack! Connected my flasher board backwards! chips got toasty!

Terrible. I connected my custom made flasher board with a reverse polarity of 6v supplied via 4 AA. The chips got warm. I thought it was all over, but when I connected it via the correct polarity, it now works. Is this board ready and waiting to fail now? Thoughts? This board is to be permanently pl...

Shiny decals and old decals won't adhere

Im using 8 year old decals.

Here is my problem. On the sheet, they are shiny. Super shiny. I put them on the model and they're still shiny. They do not seem to adhere either. They're made by round two :/

Thanks all for the quick reply.

Iv been using the acreation decals and these polar lights decals seems really shiny. Will my metalizer sealer blend it in? I hate the decal to look like an obviously shiny thing on the surface

Yes, iv ordered from the fiber optics store. For a $1 they will send you a sample pack. Shipping is $5 otherwise.

I order my LEDs from Mouser.com where LEDs are 10-20 cents a piece or on eBay.

Don't buy from radio shack unless you need a quick part or you're super rich.

A 1k ohm resistor should be pretty safe. Connect the LEDs in series too and you have nothing to worry about.

Radio does carry the battery clips.

Buffing Metalizer then decals then Metalizer Sealer?

Im trying to do this right.

I painted the outside of my NX-01 1:350 Enterprise with a stainless steel buffing metalizer. The sealer says to apply after the decals have been applied, do you guys do this?

Will these decal solutions be safe on a non-sealed metalizer surface?

How to rule out bad transistor?

I'm going mad. I can't figure out whether I have a solder bridge making a connection between two leads of a transistor or the transistor was fried. Right now there is continuity between two of the leads.

Does anyone have any ideas how to remedy this short of desoldering it out?

I see 50 or 100 white or blue LEDs for just $5 in eBay. Are these any good?

Mouser or digikey wants 50-75 cents per white LED.

No primer and it's fairly thick. I was going for light blocking and not artistic excellence :( It's been about 24 hours. Do you think it would be reasonably dry enough within a week or two? Its on the inside and at most I just want to superglue some lights to its surface when it's good enough. Could...

Rustoleon Metallic Silver on Plastic

I saw a YouTube video of someone named badgrendel using rustoleon metallic silver to paint the inside of a nx-01 for light blocking. The hardware store guy actually recommended it over krylon, too. It is a bit tacky as it may be reacting to the plastic, but will it eventually dry? Things can't react...
